AZ_GAMER December 18, 2010 - 1:18am | Space Travel being an extermely dangerous endeavor in the Clockwork Fusion world is accomplished through the following methods or a combination there of. Aether Drive: The Aether Drive is a speculative fictional propulsion system driving travel through the use of the element Aether (AKA Ether). Aether, an extremely rare element, is reknowned for its metaphysical attributes and properties is used as the primary reaction fuel for Aether Drive Systems. An Aether reactor essentially creates hot fusion by introducing an electrical magnetic current into a quantity of Aether and hydrogen. The electro magnetic field from a tesla type coil instantaneously transfors the Aether from a gaseous state to a plasma as the molecules rapidly react fusing with the hydrogen atoms. This brief fusion reaction releases a burst of power which is released as thrust. Chemical Rockets: Usually hydrogen is the primary agent used in the settings chemical rocket drives. Electrical Plasma Drive (Ion Drive): treat the same as Ion Drive in SFKH Artificial Gravity: Artificial Gravity Is Non Existent in this setting. Void Travel: Void Travel is accomplished via Aether Drive, otherwise it is the same as desribed in Alpha Dawn. Supplies, Fuel, Oxygen Tanks, Space Suits, and Equipment take up a lot of space in the ships. Lasers are extremely rare technology and most likely would not be seen on space going vessels. Instead Kintetic weapons such as Coil / Rail Guns, Torpedoes / Rockets, Projectiles, and rudimentary particle beam weapons like electron weapons will be more common place. Lasers will be allowed but should be considered rare. |
Rum Rogue December 18, 2010 - 10:21am | The rpg Space:1889 has some interesting information on Aether flyers. Time flies when your having rum. Im a government employee, I dont goof-off. I constructively abuse my time. |
Will the Stampede December 18, 2010 - 11:28am | How about solar sails? Do spacecraft remain in space all their lives, or do they lift from planets like rockets? " 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death." |
AZ_GAMER December 18, 2010 - 1:46pm | Yes Solar Sails are a good idea as well, however would these serve as system ships only or starships as well? Solar sails may be combined with one of the other technologies for star travel. |
w00t (not verified) December 18, 2010 - 7:39pm | Have you seen Treasure Planet? Rent it and get some ideas. :-) I'd love to play in this setting. |
jedion357 December 18, 2010 - 10:21pm | Treasure Planet is little more than Treasure Island and long john silver. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
w00t (not verified) December 18, 2010 - 10:51pm | Treasure Planet is little more than Treasure Island and long john silver. Story has the same line, quite true, but it's a totally different take. Ether, space whales, anti-gravity, exploding stars, cyborgs, aliens, robots, etc.. It's a funny movie as well. :-) |
Will the Stampede December 19, 2010 - 10:51am | Treasure Planet is little more than Treasure Island and long john silver. It's actually not a bad bit of sci-fan, and it sparked my imagination. Sides, there are far worse authors to rip off than Robert Louis Stevenson. Would love to see a sci-fan treatment of Black Arrow.... " 'Beware the Beast, Man, for he is the Devil's pawn. Alone among God's primates, he kills for sport, for lust, for greed. Yea, he will murder his brother to possess his brother's land. Let him not breed in great numbers, for he will make a desert of his home and yours. Shun him; drive him back into his jungle lair, for he is the harbinger of death." |
w00t (not verified) December 19, 2010 - 9:37pm | Just had a thought while working on #16. Flash Gordon era spaceships are very cool looking, it would be neat to have a sector of the game use that style of ship. Perhaps all ships crafted by the Bezentine empire has this type of design. just a thought. I got moore. |
Deryn_Rys December 20, 2010 - 6:52pm | I definately agree with the coolness of the type of tech from the old serials, and even the science fiction movies of the 40's and 50's. "Hey guys I wonder what this does"-Famous last words "Hey guys, I think it's friendly." -Famous last words "You go on ahead, I'll catch up." -Famous last words "Did you here that?" -Famous last words |
