Campaign Settings

There are currently two campaign settings being prepared for this game system, though I have been toying with developing at least 3 other Campaign Models based on these rules. Currently I've been working on a campaign based around the rise of the Sathar as a threat to the Frontier which will eventually lead to the first and second Sathar wars. And at present I created two adventures that are loosely based on the adventures in the Alpha Dawn rule books, with a third one dealing with the escaped hydra like monster completing the introductory module for this game system.

The second campaign is set 30 years after the Second Sathar War, and involves an opportunistic admiral making a deal with the Slithaar (an alien species that might be an advanced form of Sathar) to take over the Frontier. This plot started shortly after the second Sathar War and involved cloning many spacefleet inductees and after 30 years when these clones became high officials in the fleet they will turn on the Frontier at the Admiral's command, and force the council of worlds to make him the first Emperor of the Imperium. Of course there are a group of heroes including a mysterious order called the Mystic Knights have gathered to stop the Admiral.

This second campaign came about because as a long time Star Wars fan, I always wanted to play in that sandbox, but didn't want to be constrained by what is cannon in that universe. so by creating my own campaign I could do a Star Wars style game but having the freedom to take it in unique directions.

Sounds cool. In my campaign setting I have an order of knights active behind the scenes, but they are the continuation of the Sovereign Military Order of Hospitalars. In the future they are made up of primarily Explorer professionals. I liked the idea of an ancient knighthood and figured if the real order has managed to survive for over 900 years, it could easily last into the Star Frontier.

One of the things I was doing when I started working on taking all those reams of home rules, and turning them into a coherent game system, was to create a Universal Role playing System. The Star Frontiers rules set is in reality only one component of this system, and eventually I want to create various campaign models that are all based on these rules.

I have a set of core rule books for this system (removing all the rules that are unique to the various games) and then I used those rules to create various games (Star Frontiers, Gamma World, Sword & Sorcery etc) and each of these sets can be used to create whatever types of campaigns you want. Because the various games are all based on the same core rules, players and administrators who learn the core rules can easily play any of the other games, and concepts from one system can easily be used in another system making crossover campaigns real easy.

Of course after doing all that work I found out that WOTC had released their SRD and I had to laugh because had I used the SRD I could have saved myself a whole lot of time. Ultimately I think it was better that I hadn't known about the SRD because I like how the system turned out.

With the Star Frontiers rules I was thinking about doing a kind of Spelljammer/Dragonstar campaign model, a campaign based on the Doom universe, and one centered on the human's first steps into interstellar space. Of course hopefully that'll all happen after we get these rules more or less complete.
