Mentalist In Hiding

I got inspired by an archetype in the FS book.
Quote:
This mentalist wants to remain off the grid after discovering her powers. She is scared to death someone will want to experiment on her or twist her into someone or something else.
She choose the quiet life of the rim territories, where civilization meets the vast frontier. Hiding among simple folk, working hard for a living and experimenting with her powers when she is alone.
Safe and secure. Until one day when they arrived. It doesn't matter who they are, there not welcome. They start pushing the local populace around, her people. Bullies.
She decides to protect herself and her people. Like a raging volcano her powers erupt, "I'll make them sorry."

This has a lot of potential-
people organizations are hunting him

there's a safe haven out there but it might as well be a million light years away because of all the hurdles to over come to get there

could almost do a "Fugitive" style adventure where the principle has all sorts of adventures while trying to get to his safe haven
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

What if the party was hired in a heavy populated part of the frontier as protectors to deliver a package. The package could be a very young girl/boy, teenager, young adult or someone middle aged with extraordinary mentalist powers. Lot's of obstacles along the way and maybe even Star Law/Silver Twin is after them.

Perhaps the bad/good guys have a mentalist of their own that can track other mentalist.

yeas but then it would be the same as many other adventures: PCs hired as transporters
if the PCs are the mentalist and on the run its a different twist

I see. Couple more ideas.

  1. A new PC joining the group could be the mentalist on the run. The party has a few normal adventures together while hints from the Player or Referee are dropped about the true nature of the mentalist PC. After a narrow escape from Star Law/Bad Guys/Corporation the party must seek the aid of another mentalist on the fringe of the frontier. Someone who specializes in "masking" mentalist powers. This person must be convinced to teach the new PC how to mask their powers.
  2. The party is on the same planet/location where this mentalist is living (or chased too). They must make a choice to help the mentalist or capture her for a reward. Perhaps capturing her is easier said than done and not all PC's will walk away unscathed.

Clear Thinkers cadre is dedicated to getting rid of mentalist

Free Thinkers cadre is dedicated to helping the mentalist

Madderlian Church of Humanity's theology would cause them to view mentalist as the spawn of the daemoniac.

Psy-Corp could be a new mega corp looking to cash in on mentalist tech sort of like the Blue Sun corp in Firefly.

Lots of possibilities

Mentalist criminals and terrorist making it easy for the normals to justify harsh treatment and jailling of the mentalist.

Edit: a nice mega-city would be a good setting for this, even develop a Shadow Run tone for the game.

Plus since we're talking about mentalism there is an angle for the sathar- the mentalists are hearing things during the adventure- sathar hypnotism is ill understood and could be a form of mentalism in itself.
