iggy October 3, 2010 - 9:16pm | Jedion and I were chatting and food came up. So, it's time for the Core Four summer break to be over. Jedion came up with some cool restaurant names: Garden of Groth- a dralasite cuisine resturant Flavor of Fromeltar- dral and vrusk cuisine Void Cafe - Core 4 cuisine Yazirian Barbeque Joint- not a name but a class of restaurant So, what's on the menu at these places? What other restaurants can you think of? I'd say the Garden of Groth serves the dral puddings that I've read about here on this site. It is especially popular as a dessert place among human patrons. -iggy |
w00t (not verified) October 4, 2010 - 8:56am | When you finalize some ideas let's us therefore make Locations! for the magazine. And a d100 table of "stuff that happens in the restaurant". After all, d100 Starport layovers is old news! ;-) |
Imperial Lord October 4, 2010 - 4:44pm | Yazirian RAW Bar! (And I mean raw!) Pudding Heaven (Very popular Dralasite chain - Humans like it too.) Ki'zzzk's Insect Buffet (Vrusk) D'rzar's Famous Five-Grain Porridge (Vrusk) Just The Sauce (Another popular Dralasite chain) |
w00t (not verified) October 4, 2010 - 9:07pm | I don't see vrusk enjoying eating bugs. I actually see them as meat eaters, ripping chuck off with their mandibles. Or as vegetarians. I could be wrong..... I'm enjoying this thread. Brings flavor to the frontier. No pun intended. "A living frontier" |
iggy October 4, 2010 - 9:47pm | I feel that vrusk ate bugs raw anciently. Now they prepare them as we mammals do other mammals. When they prepare bugs to eat they are cooked and served like shell fish or butchered and the desired parts cooked. Some bugs are the principle ingredients of vrusk puddings. Saying a vrusk would not eat bugs because he is a bug himself is like saying a human would not eat a cow because they are both mammals. Vrusk are far more adapt are defining different types and species of insects just as we are very adept at classifying mammals. There are insects for eating and insects that are too close to the vrusk emotionally to think of eating. -iggy |
w00t (not verified) October 5, 2010 - 10:26am | I don't see them eating bugs because I wouldn't be able to stomach my character eating a bug. lol! Hot and crispy pillbugs for the happy couple. |
Imperial Lord October 6, 2010 - 11:18pm | Just as insects eat other insects, I see the Vrusk eating insects. No problem there. I am sure that the Vrusk CAN eat meat, but they don't really like it - at least not as much as the Yazirians and Humans do. Too much tedious chewing. I imagine that the Vrusk enjoy efficiency with their food the way they like efficiency in their lives. Simple fare - mash up some grains and add some water for some porridge, pop a couple of crickets in their mouths, and they're good to go. I see the Yazirians having elaborate banquets with huge pits where young Yazirians kill the game right there in front of everyone for it to be blessed and then eaten - fresh and bleeding. It is probably a great priviledge, if not a rite of passage, for young Yazirians to kill the dinner in front of everyone to the cheers of all as the blood splatters all over the place. Then they cut the carcass and pass it over individual bunsen-burner type devices for just a slight "crisping". Always very "rare" of course. Mmmmmmm - raw wild boar... |
w00t (not verified) October 7, 2010 - 7:30am | I am sure that the Vrusk CAN eat meat, but they don't really like it - at least not as much as the Yazirians and Humans do. Too much tedious chewing. Good point. And dral food would be too "runny". We had a thread talking about the the types of food rations on ships. What is really in the Gullwinds galley? Food to satisfy all races? Prob mostly dral food since that was the previous crew. Then they cut the carcass and pass it over individual bunsen-burner type devices for just a slight "crisping". Always very "rare" of course. Mmmmmmm - raw wild boar... I'm imagining the yar (my race proposal for the FronteirSpace RPG) located in the high cliffs who often ride the air currents to get from one side to the other having a rite of passage for adolescents. They grapple the dangerous gawkbird in mid air, bringing it down to the festivities below. |
jedion357 October 13, 2011 - 1:05pm | DP I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 August 17, 2011 - 9:37am | Volturnian sushi, sliver thin strips of sand shark specially prepared by Chef O-sen Yen, now being served at Rockets. Chef O-sen Yen, recently come from Ankor Station is the first osakaran chef to come to Port Loren. NOTE: the Frontier Office of Food Safety and Health warns that the consumption of raw and improperly prepared Voltirnian sand shark can be toxic and have serious side effects. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

Imperial Lord September 9, 2011 - 1:55pm | Landshark sushi... Mmmmm... I bet the outer part is very tough though. |
jedion357 September 10, 2011 - 6:02am | This is why you only want a top chef to prep it, that and the toxicity issue. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
