Do we keep the Game Room?

Some of us have used the Game Room, some have not and may not know what it is cable of. The Game Room is an integrated part of this site; the Referee starts a Game Room, adds Players (site members) and adds Character's that were created on this site by the Player's.

A chat box is displayed and Players join as their characters. The Referee can join multiple times, each time as a different NPC. There is a dice roller that shows who rolled and the result. A list of character boxes shows basics stats about each character.

Here is an example with two characters;

Do we keep the Game Room integrated into this site or remove?

I liked it, mostly.  The main problem I saw was that the die rolls didn't get put into the chat window (and I know why).  I found that made it very hard to use since if you were making multiple rolls, you had to roll, get attention to your roll in the lower window (instead of it just popping up in the chat at the place you made the roll) and then repeat with each successive roll.

I also vaguely remember there being lags or something as there were several times when playing in the game room that some one would roll and different people would see either not see it or see a different result or would miss a roll and see the next one.

The multiple login's for the referee are not needed as far as I'm concerned (I know w00t likes them).  When playing in person the referee can't clone himself :) either. Using the online chat doesn't need the feature, it's just a bonus.

Personally, I'd much perfer to play on OpenRPG.  I've never had any problems with it (although others seem to have had issues) and I like the integrated map ability in addition to the chat and die rollers.  (And for those that like the multiple logins for the ref, it allows aliases so you can post from any character name you want.)

So I guess my vote would be to remove it since I'd prefer to use a different platform.

I run my games through Fantasy Grounds. It is'nt free, but it is polished and contains all of the attributes TerlObar mentioned above. There is a demo on the FG website:

I never got around to playing in the Gameroom, so my opinions will be those of the eager but uninformed. I agree with TerlObar that the ref can easily make it known which NPC is responding to the PCs simply by adding a typed "who's talking"  like "Bogo the NPC sez/ whatever".
I guess if there's a quicker easier way for the ref to reply for an NPC, great. But not absolutely necessary.

The dice roller issue sounds like more of a problem, so I'd think that would be a more important issue to resolve. Would be awesome to SF online I say. :)

Is the gameroom working again? I recall issues the last few times with the dice roller.
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

I think the biggest hinderance to using the game room is schedules but if we get rid of it then schedules will cease to be the biggest hinderance.

IMO
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Yes, schedules are a much bigger hindrance than anything else.

Hey all, I'm typing horizontal w/ 1 finger so i hope to make sense.

IMO,
the groom is a fast way to get a game going by itself or in combonation with Skype. No extra software is needed. It lacks a map to move piecies around - I upload a labeled map off-site and have the link in the description of the game room.

The dice roller could be improved.
I like to see the character sheets when playing.

Imperial and I played SWII using only the dice roller, lol. we both had a KH map at home and used the phone to take turns. At the end we updated a excel sheet to setup the map when playing again.

I want to tinker w/ mapttol some more. Either way i hope we can play this winter.

Lastly Bill wrote a chat room in ajax complete w/ initiative roller. lol
At least the new site will have a chat room that is very flexable

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

The only reason I could see to ditch would be if it costs $$$ to keep it.
