Everybody likes a good dropship, but nobody likes a good dropship more than ol' Captain Rags. Need to get your mission team down to a planetary surface in a hurry? Expecting a wee bit of resistance upon arrival? Well then, stuff your stuff in the new XL-25 "CHOPSHIP", and speed your PCs on their way to their ultimate screaming demise... I mean, their glorious cheering victory!

Pilots that have flown the XL-25 on combat missions note that the ship handles "chop" (rough weather) exceptionally well compared to other dropships. The nickname is now commonly used whenever anyone is referring to the XL-25.

Your lay out designs remind me of the troop transports in the first (And Truthfully Only, The sequels have been, well disappointing) Screamers movie. Did you get any inspiration from those Dropships in your design?

I never got the chance to see the Screamers movie. I'll see if it's on my DVR movie index here.

No, actually I was poking around looking for pics of Gerry Anderson's old Fireball XL-5 ship from the 1965 puppet sci-fi kids show. Found the general schematics, altered the ship design a wee bit (the XL-5 didn't have side fuel tanks, four point landing gear, or laser turrets), and hacked off the large vertical tail fin. Then I used a blank outline and filled in the internal schematics. Painted over the "XL-5" with "CHOPSHIP 5", checked the oil, transmission fluid, and brake fluid, added some water to the radiator, flipped the ignition switch... and viola! Surprised

I like. The ship gives me the impression is can rocket from space to the surface really, really fast and take off again dodging enemy fire.
