iggy September 2, 2010 - 12:33pm | I do not recall any rules or guidance about how long it takes a character to heal. Nor do I recall anything detailing how long it takes to do the skills minor surgery and major surgery. I imagine that the races each heal at a different rate but probably close enough to say it is the same. How long does it take to heal x stamina pints naturally? How long with minor surgery helping? How long with major surgery helping? How long does it take to perform minor surgery? How long to perform major surgery? -iggy |
w00t (not verified) September 2, 2010 - 1:38pm | Natural healing - 1 STA per day assuming the character is eating and drinking in a healthy manner, and undergoing no activity more strenuous than walking. Hospital - 100Cr/day heals 10 STA per day, one afflicted toxin/poison, allows a STA check to turn a fatal disease or radiation sickness into a non-fatal one or allows a STA check to neutralize a non-fatal disease or radiation sickness. Minor (field) surgery - heals 1d10 STA + Medic level with the proper use of a medkit. A successful Medic check and proper use of a medkit neutralizes rradiation, toxin/poison or disease symptoms for 1 day. The check can be made each day as long as the Medic has medkit provisions. I do not use the Major surgery skill since I believe it's part of the hospitalization process. One of our members is in the process of typing up a medical article for SFman. :-) |
Georgie September 2, 2010 - 4:21pm | As a rule of thumb, you can assume 1-3 hours for minor surgery and 2-10 hours for major. You can use the degree of success as an indicator of the time needed as well (low rolls = less time, high rolls = longer). Failure always uses the maximum time. Time ranges include proper anesthetization, the work to locate/correct the problem, and initial recovery from anesthesia. Surgery is not a skill one would use in the middle of a firefight. Sargonarhes September 3, 2010 - 2:52pm | If you wanted to you could add in some nano-bots into the body to assist healing faster. This would be something that clearly hospitals would already have in use, along with all other medical devices. I've read a number of sci-fi books where medi-nanos are used to treat minor wounds and keep people near death alive until major work can be done on them. Now I wonder why SF never had them, although at the time of SF ideas like medi-nanos were not really thought of then. So I'm bringing up the idea now, so all we need are some clear ideas of what medi-nanos can do. Unless you want to consider the Stimdose as already a medi-nano filled device. In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same. |

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

I would love to do that. It might take a while though. Might be able to start in two months. Anyone able to start it earlier? jacobsar September 23, 2010 - 5:06pm | :-) Yes it's right up my alley. I have been thinking about the stim dose and stay dose as nanotek items as mentioned earlier by Sargon. I think it really would have to be given the very different physiologies of the core four. I am thinking the doses are nanites suspended in solution that alter their surfaces electrical fields to mimic different molecules. That could be why there isn't separate references to Vrusk stims and Dralastite stims. There is actual precedent for this idea in a book called "Hacking Matter."
