Rick April 20, 2010 - 5:43pm | Has anyone come across this company before: www.shapeways.com Looks like they will take a 3D image that you create with their software and make a metal or plastic model of it for you. Was wondering if there was a market here for redesigned Star Frontiers ships. Maybe do a series of standard ship models that we could order? |

jedion357 April 20, 2010 - 7:08pm | there are already a bunch of ship designs up loaded to that site hard to tell if they are a good buy for the price but I did notice that some of the D&D style miniatures that were comparable in size to what you'd expect from Reaper were about what you'd pay for a Reaper miniature so this seems like a good idea to explore. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Rick April 21, 2010 - 5:41am | Looking around on various forums, it looks as though there are a few other companies offering a similiar service. Some are more expensive, but offer finer detail, so I think they're reasonably priced. One forum mentioned that shapeways are good for detail on ships and 28mm figures, they can go down to about 0.7mm thickness on a model, which I think would be good enough for what we would want. |
