Inigo Montoya April 3, 2010 - 8:26pm | Thanks for your interest in this project. An Omnibus is a collection of writings by multiple authors on a common subject. I look forward to some great input from the community here. Let me start out by sharing some of the thoughts that I had about the needs of robots in SF. I’d like to see equipment upgrades for robots laid out like normal weapons and equipment are. I feel there should be guidelines on quantity of upgrades (spatial restrictions and energy restrictions). I would also like to see some guidelines about how many functions a robot might be able to have. There seems to be no consideration for bots smaller than man sized, standard bodies. I would love to see ample examples of maintenance/service/heavy robots with images. Some technical information and diagrams would help give players and game masters a better handle on representing robots. |
jedion357 April 3, 2010 - 9:14pm | For one thing the lower the robot level the more the number of functions its likely to need since lower level robots need such literal instructions. a level six robot will need fewer functions since it ability to problem solve is so far advanced. for example a lvl 6 butler bot might have the mission: Care for the physical comfort of your master. It would need a function telling it who the master is but otherwise its smart enought to figure out the other stuff in that mission. If the butler bot is level 3 (or lower) it would need functions telling it what car means and what physical comfort is. though I suspect that some rich butler bot owner might have functions written to control what a level 6 or 5 butler bot might decide to do if they were brain dead- sort of a living will or Do not resusitate order for robots. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
