Week after my birthday I was allowed out to go gaming at the Hobby Bunker and helped a club member play test a Battle of Stalingrad scenario using Poor Boody Infantry rules modified for 28mm gaming- was a ton of fun and I steamrolled some croation nazis (just played the same game at a small convention and played the German and Croats and very nearly won a major victory- some lucky dice rolls in the last turn let the soviets recapture an objective I was holding and gave them a minor victory.)

But anyhow after the first play test we hit the local Irish pub for excellant pub grub and even better beer, then two of us went back to the bunker to run a KH games. ON the fly I set up 2 sathar destroyters & a CL vs 2 UPF frigates, a CL and 2 assault scouts (I played the sathar)

My friend who is new to the game tried to be fancy and did a scissoring attack trying to bring in his  scout ships on and then the heavier ships on 2 separate trejectories unfortunately for him the table size is 4' X 6' and that doesn't give you room to maneuver much using miniatures. Plus I'm a big believer in concentration of firepower and seeking to defeat an enemy in detail so I flew right at his hevier ships and pounded them to scrap before the scout ships could get into play. the Assault scouts were going to handle me roughly in the turn after we called the game but I had already crippled one frigate and destroyed the other and the CL.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

sounds like a fun game Jedi. Hey I put two engines on a frigate too. Lots left over from thoses battleship minis...

At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy......

I bought a box of minis and I think the previous owner tried to paint strip the battle ship and the acid in the stripper serriously corroded the lead mini causing lead rot. i didn't know what lead rot was at the time and I tried to clean up the corrosion with an acid based cleaner and results were not good. End result was all those engines left over and lots of frigates got an upgrade.

I actually drilled a hole straight through the tail of the frigate in line where the engines were to attach then drilled a hole into each engine. This let me glue in a wire that gave the engines greater strength.

Plus they look so much better with the engines on than off

The engines look really nice on them. Without them, they look like large rocket-boosters, but with them, they look more like starships. The lack of struts give them a nice compact profile.

Personally, I always like the look of the Sathar ships more - they have a retro-style going on. In my own games, I downplay or outright ignore the Sathar threat - focusing more on internal threats - so I use Sathar ships as older, more common Frontier starships. So its not unusual for both types of ships to operate within the same fleet. I just like their designs too much to limit them too just the vessels of unplayable bad guys. I still like the UPF ships - more so the Assault Scout.

I also use fighter craft from Ground Zero Games since TSR never produced any plus they have some that look vaguely familiar (they dont put pictures of these in the catalog to prevent IP complications or legal difficulties but it you email the owner and tell him what you're looking for he'll tell you which ones to buy.

To mount these I drill and pin them with a paper clip wire and drill into a dowel to glue the paper clip wire into that. The base is a 2 inch MDF hexagon with 6 holes drilled for the fighter wing. the center post has a 1 inch wood "coin" mounted on a dowel and painted with different greek letters to help keep which squadron is which. I have extra bases so if a fighter falls out of fromation due to evasive manuevers or battle damage It can be moved separately- all dowels pull out of the base except the center one.

And I'm with you, Malcadon on the retro look and feel of the sathar ships being way cool.

Familiar!?! I think they are one of these German knock-offs. What are they called? Kolonial Wipers? LOL

At fists, the coin-markers looked a bit odd, but from the looks of it, the marker can be used to grab the whole fighter set. Not a bad idea!

One of the odd points with fighters I fond with KH, is how a single Fighter counter represents only 1 Fighter. I never liked how Carriers hold so little Fighters, so in my games, a Fighter counter represents up to 5 Fighters (I place a micro-die to show the number on the counter). Latter on, I lost interest in fighters over their lack of options, and the whole Burnside's Zeroth Law of space combat debate.
