iggy February 19, 2010 - 12:55am | I imagine dralasites having a well developed art in shadow theatre. The actors take various shapes and and tell a story behind an opaque screen which is back-lit to create the shadow effect. What would some of the classics be in dralasite shadow theatre? Who is the dral Shakespeare? What are the stories? Edit: I'm expanding this thread to all the arts. What are the various arts that dralasite enjoy and or are unique to them? -iggy -iggy |
jedion357 February 19, 2010 - 9:31pm | I would think that it would only represent one art form out of a mirad and might be more popular on on planet than another. But non the less this is a good idea. I wonder what dralls would think of the 3 Stooges. I imagine the dral shakespear would be a character that would be a sort of Dralasite Bill Cosby- a deeply respected comedian with a long and profitable career. I also think sculpture would be a major dralasite artform but of the sort that could be touched and engaged. on the idea of sculpture with the tech to produce sonic knives and sword then I'd expect sonic sculpture but tuned so as not to be as dangerous as sonic weapons. as you engage the invisible sculpture he sense its shape via a tingling on the dermal layer. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
iggy February 20, 2010 - 1:10am | Oh yes there are a myriad of other art forms that dralasites practice. I see dralasites as very fond of expressive arts. Shadow theatre is one that drals have taken way beyond humans and yazirians. Vrusk found the idea new and intriguing when the dralasites introduced it to them. Now another art form that drals have long developed more than humans is mime. Some humans still find it as annoying as human mime. But when exposed to dral mime in its full extent it is quite interesting. Dralasite mime mimics the entire environment, not just the actors in it. One dral may take on the shape of a door and tease another mimicking the shape of a yazirian. Still a third may then take forms representing the expressed emotions of the yazirian and another forms representing the emotions of the door. A talented dralasite mime troupe leaves human mimes at a loss. BTW, Bringing up other art forms is a better idea. I'm gonna try to relabel this thread. -iggy -iggy |
Imperial Lord February 21, 2010 - 11:25pm | Since their sense of smell is quite advanced, I would imagine odors being incorporated into Dralasite art. Call it "smellivision". I like the idea of interactive art. Unlike our snooty human sculptures, Dralasites would definitely want to touch the artwork and interact with it in a physical way (although not to the point of damaging it). I think it would be perfectly acceptable for Dralasites to touch their artwork, unlike us humans, who have this (in Dralasite view) excessive reverence for works of art. Dralasite mimes would be more like contorsionists, putting their bodies into hilarious shapes. Making fun of Yazirians would always be a popular pastime, as long as there are not too many of them around... Wrestling - both in a pure strength and a stylized form with many rules - is also popular. In terms of theatre, the vast majority would be comedies. Most storylines involve some ridiculous misunderstanding, which the protagonist debates and jokes his way to a happy ending. "Three Stooges" variety slapstick would be a constant theme, as well as making fun of other Races who are take themselves too seriously. The most popular would involve audience participation. Imagine "The Three Stooges" meets "Three's Company." That's the essence of Dralasite theatre. |
iggy February 22, 2010 - 12:39am | Wrestling is the dralasite sport. They call it tangling. The point is to control the opponent with moves like flattening oneself out over your opponent and literally tying the poor soul into a knot. I plan this to be the subject of my next article submission to SFman. I like the concept o dralasites touching their art. There are open parks full of dralasite art that drals wander aimlessly through feeling, pushing, pulling, climbing, etc. Many pieces are shapes for the dral to mimic the form of or blend with. Imagine half of a spiral that the dral forms the other half of or a portion of a common environmental shape that the dral must complete with it's body. Another art form that is popular is dance. Dralasite dance is like watching the flubber blobs from the Robin Williams version of Flubber but with out the line dancing. They are constantly changing shape to the rhythm of the music. -iggy -iggy |
