Hey Guys,

I would like to get an old laptop to just run a word processer. To do writing only. I need to go super cheap cause I'm cheap, and I dont have much money. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy......

how old?
I think I still have one from 98-00 timeframe. It doesnt have any OS or software.
If I still have it at the house, I will look this weekend, and you feel confident with putting an OS on there, then I will let have it for the cost of shipping.
Time flies when your having rum.

like i said, I have to find it... Couple months ago I started throwing out my old tech.  50-50 its here. 50-50 its in storage across the state or trashed. so not very good odds.  Its going to be a few months before I get to my stuff in my storage unit.

Ancient laptops and hookey etch-a-sketchs are no match for a good install of Windows ME.

I have an old compac late 90's era laptop.   800x600 screen, 333MHz processor windows XP.  I don't remember the amount of memory but its probably around 64-128 MB.  The  battery doesn't work (you have to keep it plugged in) and the screen isn't the brightest but to run a word processor it would probabaly work okay.  If  you're interested, let me know.

Windows ME is less reliable then an Etch-a-Sketch in the hands of a guy with a sneezing fit! As least with an Etch-a-Sketch, you can have the "screen of death" on your own terms.

"good install of ME" ... and oxymoron of the 1st order. :-D

I went back to college in '99-00 with an old NEC lap top that had a monochrome screen and was the size of a small suit case but I had picked it up for a good price (free). I managed to install window 3.0 I think but it ate up so much memory that I had to go in and delete stuff like solitare to create space to actually use it.

Wrote all my term papers on that thing and saved them to a 3.5 disk that I took to the computer lab and spell checked and printed but if I made changes to the document in the computer lab I couldn't open it on the laptop.

I had loaded a copy of Civilization (1st edition) onto 5 disks and managed to play that too on that old beast with the caveat that I had to constantly swap out disk during the game. and that I got real good at determining which monochrome color was which race in the game not as easy as you might think.

Then I got a small settlement and treated my self to a pentium and Civilazation Call to Power!!!!
Ah but those were the days back in '99 being the oldest person on campus with the oldest computer on campus and no car and the 18-19 year olds thought I was nut "How do you live with out a car?"
and I got straight A's except for the professor who didn't like me. youth is wasted on the young.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

I was just going to say...any laptop with Windows ME installed should be your best bet for saving money. I took my desktop with ME out to the desert with every gun and bullet I owned and I still wasn't satisfied.
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out
