dj2145 September 1, 2009 - 12:35pm | What kind of material would you like to see? I've never used the canon mechanics much (pretty much homebrewed it from the start - dumb kid I was) but I could always contribute in substance. Where are we lacking? |
w00t (not verified) September 1, 2009 - 1:10pm | If you look at the past issues you will see everything from gear, houserules, fiction, fan-art, races, etc.... I believe we would like to see more Mini-modules, seceranrios with NPC stats and a map. We always need art - if your not an artist search for free art we could use or get permission from the artist. If you don't have everything together someone on this site could help or one of the webzine staff could assist. (About 70% of the submissions need additional work). Just start submitting! |
Georgie September 1, 2009 - 3:56pm | Odd. I can't view Issue 12. It says the file is damaged. Anyone else experiencing this? The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of

jedion357 September 1, 2009 - 10:52pm | Bit of adenda for my article: just noticed that the word against in the first paragraph of section 3 is out of place. it should read: The Sathar Summit recommends against a full scale military campaign against the weakened inferior clan Y. It is believed that the Sathar’s pathological fear of other space faring civilizations will results in a Shiva Response by all clans should we come close to eradicating any one clan in isolation. Sorry I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
w00t (not verified) September 2, 2009 - 4:39am | NP. I'll get that corrected. |
umungus September 2, 2009 - 10:24am | Awesome issue guys. This one is huge. Thanks to everyone for all the hard work. I will comment again when I read through the whole beast....hehehe At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy...... |
jedion357 September 2, 2009 - 10:38am | love the article on Ion engines. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
w00t (not verified) September 2, 2009 - 1:03pm | Changes done. After reading Issue 12 I'm sure you will be inspired to write something up for Issue 13. |
Shadow Shack September 2, 2009 - 2:24pm | No deck plans? "Several submissions were sent to this ship, I want to know what happened to the deck plans that were sent!" And no Page Three Girl... |
w00t (not verified) September 2, 2009 - 3:34pm | The plans must have been hidden in the escape pod. You'll need to send a detachment to retrieve them. It will take the better part of Issue 13 to find them. Did anyone find that Yaz attempting to Battle Rage a Coke machine HILARIOUS!!!??? wow...too funny. |
Georgie September 2, 2009 - 5:48pm | I always love the ads. Wish I had that type of creativity. The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of

Will September 3, 2009 - 11:26pm | I was disappointed with the issue. For one, since when did Galaxy Rangers get added to the SF canon? Did I miss a staff meeting or something? And, it consumed a substansial(and mind-numbing)portion of the 'zine. On top of that, it obviously wasn't accepted through the normal submission process, or, if it did, the line editors didn't know anything about it. Oh, I know, it's just another case of what Larry likes goes in what is supposed to be a community zine, and what Larry doesn't like doesn't, regardless of any real merit the articles he likes/dislikes might have. Honestly, there was some good work in the 'zine(by jedi and Shadow, mainly), but it was overshadowed by the submission editor's obvious prejudices, to say nothing of the plodding Galaxy Rangers story he snuck into the beginning of the 'zine. "You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued. "Drawing up strict, senseless rules for the sole reason of putting you at the top and excluding anyone you say doesn't belong or fit in, for no other reason than just because you say so." —Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stephens, Federation |
umungus September 4, 2009 - 7:54am | I guess if Jedi and Shadow are the ones doing the "good work" maybe I should give it a rest. What about the artwork by Shell and CJ? I think they should be thanked for their work. At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy...... |
Will September 4, 2009 - 8:27am | Sorry, umungus. I've always liked your articles. I think my character(in Tom's game)should pick up a tri-barrel gyrojet after she gets done frying everything in sight with the Dart's atomic drive. Shell and C.J. did a good job with the art. "You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued. "Drawing up strict, senseless rules for the sole reason of putting you at the top and excluding anyone you say doesn't belong or fit in, for no other reason than just because you say so." —Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stephens, Federation |
jedion357 September 4, 2009 - 6:07pm | To be honest I flooded Larry with a ton of submissions over the months since the previous edition and as I had him send back all the submitted but unpublished stuff I'm embarrassed by how badly my articles needed to be cleaned up- and required a ton of editing. I couldn't even remember writing one story till reading it half way through which is ironic as its called "Memory" so I think I'll do my penance and work on all my previous submissions to clean them up for the next edition. Not to be too arguementative, Will, I hear your points but as a former 4 time college year book editor (both as assistent and cheif) I have say that to a certain point the guy doing all the editorial work (which in my experience translates to working your butt off) does or should get to have a large amount of control over whats in the edition. if for no other reason than he needs to get an edition out and much that's cut is cut because its just not ready. I was really disappointed to not see one particular submission but I really only have myself to blame as I should have invested more time on it before moving on to the next big thing. EDit: that was awesome art of the sathar grabbing the woman by shell. I fully expected Larry to just grab some cover art from warmachine or face of the enemy modules. The Picture is actually reminds me of the '50s martians want our women kind of pulp- looking at the picture I really feel the sinister intentions of the sathar. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Will September 4, 2009 - 9:50pm | True that, jedi, but there's a razor-thin line between creative control for the good of all and a passive-aggressive control freak abusing his editorial privilege to make everyone dance to the tune of his fiddle. Has that line been crossed? I think it has, but that's just my opinion, and it has little to do with not having a submission in the 'zine...I really, truly could care less about that. I could truly care less about a great many things..... BTW, the art choices were good, per usual. I just wish the rest of the zine compared. "You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued. "Drawing up strict, senseless rules for the sole reason of putting you at the top and excluding anyone you say doesn't belong or fit in, for no other reason than just because you say so." —Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stephens, Federation |
jedion357 September 4, 2009 - 10:48pm | @: Will: Fair enough; and let me say you are a class act for disagreeing with me so calmly. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Will September 4, 2009 - 11:22pm | Thank you. I appreciate that. "You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued. Ascent September 5, 2009 - 12:14am | Preaching aside, and in Larry's defense, I never experienced any type of control from Larry. In fact, Larry is the exact opposite. But as an Editor, he has the right to reject anything on any grounds. As critique for the issue, I felt that the story should be divided between issues, yes. As for whether it belonged or not, is Aliens canon? Not that I recall. Is Alternity canon? Definitly not. It's not about canon. Besides, we all knew it was coming. Larry's been talking about Galaxy Rangers for months now. There was no reason to exclude it. It just needed to be cut into multiple issues, I did feel that more tech was needed, just because that has been the flavor of the magazine until now, but maybe he just didn't have the submissions ready to go yet. I'm certainly not going to condemn him for it. I think Larry did a fine job for a first design effort. What is needed is more people to help out. I don't help out more, because I'm already spread thin enough on top of my RL things. If he were to reject something of mine, I wouldn't call him a control freak for it. If I'm concerned about it, I would ask him why. And maybe I'll find out it's something legitimate, like perhaps something in what I wrote were not conducive to the unity of the community. Fu-Man_Chu September 5, 2009 - 2:24am | Issue 12 looks good! Just curious, I had submitted an article back in May, but didn't see it appear... How do I know if its being held for another issue or if it got lost in the transmission and I should resend again? A few typos (I think) in the Classified section: For Parriah Eliminations: Should it be "Alpha Team" instead of "Alpah Team"? And with "his" vs. "this" trademark 14m For Missing Cybot: "Known" vs. "Know" to deface... Oh, and who did that incredible paint job on the raging yaz vs. Coke machine? Care to do any of my mini's? -Andrew |
Shadow Shack September 5, 2009 - 2:31am | Eh, I just submit a ton of stuff each time and wait to see what sticks. |
w00t (not verified) September 5, 2009 - 7:41am | Q: I submitted an article but I have not seen it in the zine. Why? A: We build up a pool of submissions. Some submission need a lot of "cleaning up". Sometimes were waiting for artwork. Other times we have "like" submissions that compliment each-other so we wait until the next issue (notice three sathar submissions). Once in a while a submission gets "lost". Only one submission was outright rejected for pure unacceptability. It's always best to track your submissions and email us if you have concerns or questions. Q: Who did that incredible paint job on the raging yaz vs. Coke machine? A: Jedion357; Mr. Phenomenal Cosmic Miniature Power! I'm bugging him for more stuff. Eventually I'd like to see a cartoon with mini's. Some Submissions for Issue 13 - Page 3 Girl - Desert Encounter (Jedion357) - Spy PSA - New Race - New Gear (melee weapons, Polloria) - Melee Tech II - Field Guide to Creatures of the Frontier - Campaign updates ... much more So far, we have two submitters that are tied for the most submissions! And to put pressure back you all of YOU! - I'll finish Issue 13 when all you the submission you said your working on FINISHED! That's right... Issue 13 is in process, Gerg and I have 4 articles done. |
Rum Rogue September 5, 2009 - 8:47am | can you accapt submissions via Open Office? Time flies when your having rum. Im a government employee, I dont goof-off. I constructively abuse my time. |
