Just a thread to compile a list of new computer programs either from modules, Dragon & Polygon magazines, fan creations, or from other sources.

List the computer program with a brief blurb if needed (some programs are fairly self explanetory though a brief description would be nice) then for simplicity specify which standard computer program that it conforms to concerning functions or if you choose create a function point chart by level of program. Also specify the source as things from Dragon, Polygon and the modules should recieve the weight of canonicity and fan creations are always open to interpretation.

Computer hacking program:
Is an illegal program to possess on many worlds though most legal codes prevent intrusive search and seizure so that few people are prosecuted for this crime. the program provides a bonus of +5% per level of its program to the skill roll to defeat security: the chance to defeat computer security is 60% + skill level - program level therefor a level 3 computer specialist trying to hack a computer with a level 3 computer security program would have a 60% chance of success but if he was using a level 1 hacking program then the chance would be 65%. Note: use of this program would also require an interface between the computers or the hacking program cant be used.

The program could also be used to corrupt a program in the target computer chance is 40% + skill level  - lvl of target program and the hacking program must be of an equal level or higher than the target program. Examples:
1. a robot management program could be corrupted to think that one of its security robots are in urgent need of priority maintenance so that it would order them to the robotics workshop.
2. all references to a PC's name could be removed from a data
3. a transportation program could be corrupted to cause the traffic control lights of one intersection to malfunction in some way

The computer hacking program conforms in all other respects to the computer security program.
Fan creation.

Addendum: Higher level computer security programs could cause damage to the interfaced computer if the roll to defeat security  failed. GM's choice based of circumstances.

Robot Diagnostic Program

Identical to the Analysis program in it function points per level and cost, the Robotic Diagnostic Program differes from the Robot Management Program in that it doesn't manage the actions of robots but helps a technician to diagnos damage and problems. Its of particular aid in reprograming a robot's functions and mission. Once a robotics technician has removed any security locks and access plates a computer with this program can be plugged into a robot and it provides a +10%/level of program bonus to list programs subskill. A robotics technician attempting to rewrite a robot's functions or mission while using this program can stop himself from making a mistake (failled skill roll) before any damage is done. The procedure is to make a second skill roll at the same % chance and he was able to prevent a malfunction result and the mission or functions remain unchanged.

What is the cost per level?

I searched around for "computer program levels" and "function points" looking for a concise table on how to add these for the programs listed in this topic...but couldn't. It looks like the AD, Zeb's and KH tables are arbitrary.

If you could create a based function point chart by level of program, something we could standardize off of - wouldn't that be helpful?

When I think one of these up I just look at the list of programs and pick one it compares too. thats easier then trying to make up a chart for it. in the case of robotics diagnostics just use the analysis program for function points and cost.

This table is ment to assist in creating the process power and level of new computer programs.

1.) Determine the processing power of you're program (arbitray, up to you)
2.) Cross reference the Level you want the program to run at, this gives you the FP total.
3.) Consult the Function Point Table

From Dragon #112 by Zeb Cook

Infiltration

Infiltration programs are designed to help a person with computer skill defeat the security on other computers and detect security overrides. There are six levels of infiltration programs. Each level will add 5% to the character's chance of success. The amount of time needed to defeat security or perform a security override when using an infiltration program is changed to 10-100 minutes. To be used, the computer with the infiltration program must be successfully interfaced to the other computer. Defeat Security is not required to make this interface. Infiltration programs require the same amount of function points as computer security programs.

Don't ya think there should be some kind of additional roll to prohibit the security program from notifying higher-level programs, security bots or personnel?

Maybe have to reread Cook's description and think about it. Actually thats a probably.
