Why Every Long Running SF game MUST have a Yazerian NPC

I was laying in bed thinking about a DS9 episode I hadn't seen in years: "House of Quark" where Quark accidently kills a drunken Klingon who stumbles and falls on him. Since no one wants to admit to such a ignoble death for a noble warrior Quark is credited with killing him in single combat and is forced to marry his widow. the rest of the episode is Quark the fish out of water trying to survive putting the dead Klingon's affairs in order- kind of predictable but entertaining none the less. Every so often I go to you tube and track down the Quark montage video set to the song "Master of the House" just for fun.

To the point: every long running SF campaign MUST have a Yazerian NPC so that, when the GM needs a short diverting episode, he can kill off the NPC (gloriously of course and probably saving the one or more PCs, just make sure there is enough raw damage that a freeze field or any other life saving measure is in vain). The Dead Yaz's will names one of the PCs (preferrably a Dralasite) as the Executor/Executrix of the will. Forcing them to make a journey to his home planet to manage the disposition of his estate.

Cast of characters involved:
1. Jealous half brother with anger issues
2. aged and inscrutable family matriarch
3. sexy vamp of a sister who's only skill set is her feminine whiles but she usually gets her way with just that
4. the religious uncle who is a priest in the Family of One
5. The dead Yaz's favorite cousin who is a "good guy" but not much appreciated by the family

Objectives for the PC's
1. recover/find the dead yaz's long lost "honor zamira" that was lost in difficult circumstances and the dictates of honor prevented him from replacing it.
2. Negotiate a truce among almost warring parties in the family
3. bribes/threats for the PCs to ensure that person x is designated the heir
3. read the will and than protect the heir from assassination

Reasons the PC was running around the galaxy while he had an estate to manage:
1. His dad died suddenly and he never had time to return home to claim it
2. his dad died long ago and while the dead yaz was being a n'er do well running off having adventures another family member has been overseeing it, overbearing mother, coniving uncle, manipulative sister (NOte; the family member whos been acting as regent will not appreciate the PCs coming in and rocking the boat and upsetting the power they have long enjoyed- unless of course they would like to negotiate a little fee to ensure that this person remains in charge?)

Twist: I have a yaz priest (not of the Family of One) NPC and since I was going to write into the story the advent of mentalist power for the player who wanted that I was going to give them to the yaz as well. The twist is the whole transcedent after death jedi thing with jedi style apparitions showing up at crucial junctures "Use the battle rage Luke!"
My Priest would die using his martial arts skill to bat down a tossed charge of T19 and then grapple with two bad guys, thus tying them up while yelling to the PCs to duck. the charge of T19 is quite large and outright kills the mooks but the yaz's body is not found. Latter he will speak to one PC in a dream giving him information on the lost artifact zamira that has been handed down within the family for generations so they can recover it.
Further during an intense role play negotiation when it seems the PCs should just slit their own throats as get this fueding family to listen to them. the apparition of the dead yaz shows up and says of the executor, "This is my beloved friend, whom I have chosen, hear ye him." then vanishes. This will cause an initial uproar with the religious uncle going off about demons and storming out. more of the family will be inclined to listen afterward though.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Wow jedi, this is neat'0!

PC refuses to bother with the affairs of a violent race and has pressing matters like earning credits. He is tracked down by the Family of Honor - a Yaz sect that the 'ole Yaz was part of. They make sure the PC fulfills the wishes or face Dead Yaz's Bane!

The dead yaz appears at the most annoying times until the PC complies.

The PC hires, bribes or forces a Seeker or Truth to disipate the ghostly image of the dead yaz. The dead yaz takes over the body of the Seeker of Truth and together with the PC they fulfill his wishes.

The PC finds a very old chronochome and turns it on.
*p00f*
"Aiiiiieeeeeeeeeee!"
"Two hundred years stuck in a chrono-device can give you such a crick in the neck!"
"Your a lot smaller than my last master. Say what is your name?"
PC, "Uhm.. Al Dinny"
"Al Dinny? Should I call you Al or Dinny? Or Dinny Dinny Dum Dum?"

The dead yaz is actually a sexy female yaz - who could refuse?

When meeting this paticulare Dral, she/it uses bright light to create a shadow of a sexy full figured human on the back wall of its office. Then after a few moments walks around the corner looking like that one largish women dancing in Jabbas palace in Return of the Jedi

Is the priest, by any chance, Qwai Chang Kain?

Inspired by a character archtype form the SFzine and Kung Fu.
Biosocial PSA with medical, Psycho social, and martial arts.

had to plug holes in a 2 PC party and this archtype fit.

made him a follower of a minor banned path of the Family of One theology (kind of a set up for future conflict if we take things into exploring the break away colonies form Hentz) dedicated to doing good and righting injustice. Basically he's a goody 2 shoes but with mystical meditation and bad arsed martial arts. I'd really hate killing him off to use this idea but tools are there to be used.

PS: Had him pegged for developing a mystical order of mentalist monk/knights down the road as well but we still need to just get through Volturnus.

Wow Jedion...

I really like this idea of yours.  Just replace all of the references to "family" with "Clan".

Here's the original synopsis for the season 3 episode House of Quark:

The House of Quark

After Quark accidentally kills a drunk Klingon in a brawl in his bar, Quark claims he fought the Klingon and won. His tall tale helps rebuild the dwindling clientel at his bar, and all seems to be going well until the family of the dead Klingon arrive on the Station. Soon Quark is kidnapped, taken back to the Klingon home world, and forced to marry the widow of the Klingon he killed. He then finds that he is embroiled in a bitter feud between two Klingon houses.

Embroilling the PCs in the middle of a blood feud of two yazerian clans would be just about the icing on the cake for this scenario.

Y'know, if you want to incorporate the economic angle of the episode into the game(Quark's Ferengi skills prove to be of use in exposing the rival house's attempt to bring his down through dirty financial dealings) a corporate or con artist PC would be most invaluable.

I didn't know you knew how to draw brick houses, SS. With a little more effort, I think you could do some really good work. You have the basics down, namely proportion and anatomy.

Wow. I just realized that could look like this to the dirty mind:

Quote:
I didn't know you knew how to draw [boobs], SS. With a little more effort, I think you could do some really good [boobs]. You have the [boobs] down, namely [boobs] and [boobs].

Tongue out

By the way, your Yazirian female is missing a snout and an extra pair of...bricks. Smile

IF I understand his clans, there are some half-breeds. Which would explain why that female is lacking in certain areas... [boobs] (that was a great post btw)

To me it looks like the wing membranes are smaller/vestigial as well. Also she  looks less fuzzy.
Time flies when your having rum.

Thanks, Ascent. Sadly I have a terrible sense of color, and my inking leaves a little to be desired as well. I should start photocopying my work before laying down ink and colors, I've ruined more pieces than I care to remember as such LOL

As RR says, my Venusia clan yazirians are genetic cross-breeds, sporting some human-esque features. Some have the membranes, some don't...some have the ape faces, some are more human. Some have the pointy ears, others don't. Some have the monkey feet, others more human. Some have the manes, others don't. And some females have two pair, others a single pair. It's pretty much a crap shoot when generating one, allowing 50% for each feature. I based them off the Zeltrons from Marvel's Star Wars series, if anyone remembers them.

Here's some of my "run of the mill" yazirians ---
