In Star Frontiers Alpha Dawn (Digitally Remastered Edition) on pages 87 and 88 is a creature called the Roller. The descriptive paragraphs are unclear. There appears to be a Special Attack, but no damage is listed and it does not appear on the Creature's Table.

Does anybody know the Original Source for the Roller?

original source is the module SF-1 Volturnus Planet of Mystery it appears that the  digitally remastered version of this doc lists attack damage as 4d10 claw/bite with a special being a RS roll to avoid the attack but with the caveat of to avoid the 8d10 attack a character may just have to fling himself into the shard grass for 1d10.

FYI if a animal/ race is listed as originating on Volturnus than it will be found in 1 of 4 places: original AD rules, and/or in Modules SF0- SF-2. There is of course the possibility of a animal from Volturnus turning up in a random Dragon or Polyhedron magazine that I may be unaware of.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Art for the Roller is in SF1, I think. It looks like a cross between a rhino and a bogroll dispenser.

"You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued. "Drawing up strict, senseless rules for the sole reason of putting you at the top and excluding anyone you say doesn't belong or fit in, for no other reason than just because you say so."

Thankfully I do have SF-1 Volturnus Planet of Myster. (I do not have them all). Now that I know where to find it (Thanks jedion and Will), I looked up the Roller. The Roller's Butt Missile did not fully make it into the Digitally Remastered Edition. There is one sentence that hints at it.

Question: Do I rewrite this one sentence, removing all hints about the Butt Missile, OR do I add the paragraph describing it and add to the creature table?

One wonders, in the PC world of today, if the Butt Missile was not delibertly left out of the Digitally Remastered Edition. Perhaps this is best.

What do you think?

To be honest I was lazy and stayed at my computer and looked up the digitally remaster version rather than walk to the paint studio and consult the original- sorry thought that was good enough but....

To answer your question- keep the butt missles! in the module there is a roller hunt from the air (kurabanga hang gliders) and come on you just have to have the anti air defence to keep things from being a turkey shoot.

Good point. Since I have the original source all it will take is time. Frown
Thanks again for your help.

I agree. The rollers are living proof that there are worse things than bean burrito farts.Laughing

The Roller entry is a mess. The Table for this creature is totally bogus - it was actually for another creature, not the Roller.

Has anybody done Errata for the Digitally Remastered Books?

Not that I know of.  If you've got some we can always post them in the Star Frontiersman magazine.  Would make a great entry in the Frontier Feedback section or if enough of them, an article unto itself (shameless plug for content submissions Wink).

The original holodisk were lost during a Sathar raid during SWII. We will use the webzine to post errata.

I am doing an Errata for the Digitally Remastered Edition of Alpha Dawn. But...it is a very slow process.

Up until page 80 it runs about one Erratum per page. After that it increases to 10 or 12 per page. Most are minor type o's or minor formatting errors. There are 6 to 8 critical errors so far - wrong or confusing information mostly.

I still have to go thru the Crash on Volturnus section, and am not looking forward to it, as I read the original once and was not very interested in it.

If I ever complete my task I will submit the Errata to the magazine.

Send them here in .doc or .rtf format:

Typo's aren't a big deal unless its something like: Laser Pistol 2d10 / SEU
