pineappleleader March 4, 2009 - 3:31pm | Being a slug thrower kind of guy, I never noticed this before. The Laser Pistol entry says that if the target is wearing a functioning Albedo Screen he takes half damager from lasers. The Albedo Screen entry says that he takes no damage as long as the screen has power. HUH? Which way do you play it? I asked this question on the SF-UN Yahoo Group and was told - No Damage. I got to thinking about it, while I was asleep, and this morning concluded that, as a belt powerpack has 50 SEU, a fire fight between characters armed only with lasers and albedo screens w/full powerpacks could take all night. Anybody ever have this problem in a game? |
Rum Rogue May 2, 2009 - 9:52am | Combat could get really fatal with that option.... I remember that. That would be a really interesting twist with StarFrontiers. Especially to have that extra dice ignore all personnal protection. Or would that just be too mean? Time flies when your having rum. Im a government employee, I dont goof-off. I constructively abuse my time. |
umungus May 2, 2009 - 9:55am | I recently watched the latest Punisher movie. He frequently changed clips, and actually completly ran out of ammo. A milestone for Hollywood I think... At least I got to scare an alien rabbit thingy...... |

It would be a viable alternative to doubling base weapon damage. "You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued. Shadow Shack May 2, 2009 - 5:26pm | That last Punisher flick was great on so many levels. Too bad they couldn't have done that three Punisher movies ago...Dolph Lundgren, aaaack!!! Or, even nastier, do like AD&D did for firearm damage, every ten you rolled resulted in having to roll another 1d10 for damage, and so on. I don't remember that one, although WEG's "Shatterzone" did the same thing with their resolution system. |
Will May 2, 2009 - 8:29pm | I didn't either, 'til I came across an old DUNGEON magazine article called "Jammin'" where the PCs are suckered into exploring a "beached" spectre-run spelljamming ship somewhere in the Realms. The ship had a whole bunch of wheellock pistols, which did 1d4 damage, with a 4 meaning another d4 had to be rolled, and so on. The potential lethality of this, naturally, was balanced out by the tendency for normal wheellocks to blow up in one's face(there were some more exceptional pistols to be found on the ship which didn't misfire, but....), and I thought to myself, "hey, maybe this can somehow be ported over to Star Frontiers." Will May 2, 2009 - 8:37pm | As for the last Punisher flick, I think I much rather see a live-action treatment of Marvel's Superhero Civil War storyline, tho I don't know if fans can handle seeing Cap get shot again.... If I had my choice as to another Punisher movie, a Frank Castle/Nick Fury teamup would be awesome, especially if the present Marvel continuity is advanced and old Nick isn't head of the organization formerlly known as S.H.I.E.L.D. anymore. Maybe with Lance Henrikssen as Frank Castle and Robert DiNiro as Nick Fury.... (Okay, so I'm a Nick Fury fan from the "Howling Commandos" days. Sue me.) Ascent May 2, 2009 - 9:37pm | That was Matrix. They were in a computer simulation that the computer manipulated the programming of. I don't think it was a big stretch to make the bad guys' ammunition infinite. No more so than any video game. View my profile for a list of articles I have written, am writing, will write. Shadow Shack May 3, 2009 - 8:17pm | Maybe with Lance Henrikssen as Frank Castle and Robert DiNiro as Nick Fury.... Well, anything could be better than Dolph Lundgren and David Hasselhoff. Back when the first DolphDork flick was in production, I saw Hard to Kill and couldn't imagine anyone pulling off a skull on the shirt role better than Steven Segal at the time. He had the look, he had the moves. Looking back in hindsight I'm glad it never happened that way, he really turned into a flake. I always imagined George Lazenby (the Conery/Moore in betweener Bond) as a good Nick Fury, if he could manage ditching the english accent. That was Matrix. They were in a computer simulation that the computer manipulated the programming of. I don't think it was a big stretch to make the bad guys' ammunition infinite. No more so than any video game. Well, that's a semi-plausible explanation for that specific flick...but it certainly doesn't excuse the rest of Hollywood's ammo follies. Furthermore while it may be semi-semi-semi-plausible on the big screen with a self-loader or auto (where it's tougher to actually count the discharges), nothing cracks me up more than watching a revolver fire off more rounds than a government issue M-16 is capable of. Suffice it to say, I'd love to have a ten round jetclip last that long, or better yet a 20SEU powerclip. You know, have one magazine waste more than one bad guy at a time. |

If not Henrikssen as Castle, then, perhaps Jerry Doyle(Garibaldi from B5), if one can tear him away from his radio show. "You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued.
