Second Sathar War Game Program

I've just make the first pre-alpha version of the Second Sathar War (SSW) game program I've mentioned to a few of you available for testing. Full details can be found on the starfrontiers.org site here http://www.starfrontiers.org/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=64

There is basic functionality to setup your game and move the fleets around the board. I've posted a version for both Windows and Linux. I'd have made a Mac one as well but I don't have a Mac Smile.  Enjoy

Release 0.0.7 is now out.  Full details can be found on the Release Page.  Basically, I've added a small UPF fleet and Sathar Heavy Cruiser to the tactical board demo and added functionality to place the ships on the hex grid and give them direction and speed as well selecting an orbit direction around the planet for the station.

Next up:  Selecting a ship and moving around the board.

If I owned a Mac, there'd be a Mac version as well.  It's designed to be cross-platform.  I just don't have a Mac to build and test it on.

What tools do you use? I haven't coded on my Mac (other than a touch of Python), but used to know my way around C/C++ on Windows (Borland C++ 3.0 - 5.0)

It's coded in fairly vanilla C++ with wxWidgets for the GUI components.  I chose wxWidgets since it has builds for Windows, Linux and Mac.  In fact, if you got wxWidgets v2.8.7 compiled and installed on your Mac (that's the version I'm currently using although I'm planning on moving to 2.8.10 soon but that will require some code updates), you would be able to get the source code and compile it and might just work.

I'm taking a poll on the next "big" enhancement to make in the game.  You can cast your vote here:  http://www.starfrontiers.info/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=189.  I'm looking at implementing an expandable map, fleshing out the combat system and implementing the multiplayer over the internet functionality.  Of course you can always suggest something else if you want.  Let me know.

I've really got to spend more time on this and get it finished.  It's been almost a year now but there is a new version of the game available to download.  Jump over to the Version 0.0.11 Release announcement in the development forum for the project to download version 0.0.11 if you're interested.  I've added in all the defenses so now instead of just Reflective Hulls you have the full array including working masking screens and ICMs.

Added a stand alone combat game with four predfined scenarios.  This will be expanded over the next few releases to include a scenario editor to define your own game, finishing of the combat rules and adding multiplayer support.  Jump over to the Release Anouncement and give it a try.

I just posted another version of the game.  This one adds in the Advanced Damage Table and a few bug fixes.  Jump on over to the Release announcement for version 0.0.14 tp grab a copy.  Just Linux and Windows at the moment but I'm working on the Mac port right now.

Another month, another new version.  At this rate I'll be rules complete by the end of the year.  In any case, I've released another version of the game.  You can grab it off the release announcement page.  This version adds mines, making the minelayer fully functional.  I also added the user's guide in as part of the download instead of requiring you to go find it separately.  Download and enjoy.
