Grendel_T_Troll November 27, 2007 - 12:10am | Hello everyone. I am an old gamer (Started gaming in 1980) who prefers Sci-Fi RPG's over fantasy ones. I picked up SF back when it was new, but haven't played the game for years. I was involved with other games over the decades but never forgot SF..... Lately, I have been looking at my old game stuff and decided to create a project. There was another Sci-Fi game called "Space Opera" By Fantasy Games Unlimited" The company is still around, so the game is still their IP. I liked the concept of SO, but HATED the game rules (talk about rules being created by a comittee that never spoke to each other). I always wanted to use SO's universe to another game system. Well, after experimenting with a few other games for a SO fusion project, I have gone back to SF. I think SF is a solid RPG that isn't too complicated for new players to understand. Therefore, I have decided to do a Star Frontiers/Space Opera fusion RPG. I can't really publish too much of my stuff, as it might interfere with FGU's copyrights. I am wondering if it might be ok to post some stuff in a more "generic" fashion that might be used for any custom Sci-Fi setting. What my stuff would mainly consist of would be alternate starship rules (adding artificial gravity as well as a real FTL drive as components for the ship, alternate normal space drives that heckle Newton even more, different starship weapons, etc.). I might even add races and new systems. I'll see what I can get away with... :) Well, looking forward to any input. Thank you for your attention. Grendel T. Corjay (not verified) November 27, 2007 - 12:43am | Welcome, Grendel! Generic would be fine. If the company is any bit worried, they have to send you a cease and desist first. As long as the material is your own, it shouldn't be a problem. Conversions happen all the time. You're the second person I've seen meantion Space Opera in relation to Star Frontiers. So feel free. We'd be glad to see it. Lately we've been playing around with the idea of different game systems happening within different sectors of the same galaxy. Star Drive occurring on one side of the Frontier, Traveller on another side, and now Space Opera on another. So have at it. Start a Space Opera project. |

Very well. As soon as I figure out how to start a project, I will be kick-starting my word processor and detailing some alterations to Knight Hawks for SO...

Very well. Incidentally, FYI, FGU's web site is:

They still have Space Opera Star Atlases and Ship books in stock. I still need a couple of the star atlases for my collection as well. I will, eventually, post converted ships if I can get through the crap from SO's rulebook (barely edited, chock full of errors, and their ship construction rules aren't even followed in the ship books).
Thanks for your input. Grendel T. Troll Registered Linux User #299419 "Nobody remembers what you say. A few might remember what you do, but EVERYONE remembers how you make them feel." ~ Anonymous |

Rather then com for Star Law, he dials the SEU setting on his lazer rifle upto 20 knowing he can go for full rate of fire till the power belt runs out. Leveling the rifle at bridgesStacy he firmly squeezes the firing stud.... I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
