Anonymous November 1, 2007 - 5:39am | Refer to: Avenger Squadron. You make me want to play the video game. Really, though, it takes me back. It's totally retro. Did you already have the squadron on your site or did Delta Dawn inspire you? |
Shadow Shack November 4, 2007 - 4:20am | Funny you should mention the game... Avenger Squadron is something I drummed up years ago, before my Star Fighter Corps. While whipping through a Sathar War table top game (just a boardgame, not part of a game or campaign) I couldn't help but wonder what could be done with the five scouts in Task Force Prenglar (while the rest of the fleets only had three, along with the 1-3 representation of the various militias). I figured on having those five craft staffed with higher skilled crews, making it into an elite unit. In doing so there was no way such a unit would stick with one system, so it became a part of Strike Force NOVA (the roaming fleet) and their three scouts went to Task Force Prenglar. Once I had the ideal, I needed names as they would be readily recognizable ships with their reputation of getting things done. Alas, there was my Sega Genesis with the Avengers game laying nearby...and the name came to me: Avenger Squadron. Each craft recieved a surname from the comic books after that (with the pilot/captain recieving the secret identity name of said hero), and I eventually bumped it up to six craft so they could run in two-ship flights. |
Will January 31, 2009 - 3:30pm | "Avengers assemble!" "You're everything that's base in humanity," Cochrane continued. "Drawing up strict, senseless rules for the sole reason of putting you at the top and excluding anyone you say doesn't belong or fit in, for no other reason than just because you say so." —Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stephens, Federation |
Ravenshade August 12, 2018 - 1:23am | I find this hilarious, especially because my most recent aquisition (an assault scout, no less) was salvaged before I read this... Its name is the R.S.S. Avenger. I really like what you did with this, it's very cool! I don't know where you're going, but do you have room for one more troubled soul? -Patrick Stump, Alone Together |
jedion357 August 13, 2018 - 8:56am | Heh this is an old thread if Will posted in it. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack August 15, 2018 - 12:32am | I miss Will, along with a lot of the other old time regulars like Bill/CleanCutRogue, Larry/w00t, Imperial Lord, Jaguar, Shing, Fishbone, even Art/Aethelwulfe. Probably a slew more I can't think of off the top of my head as well. |

Probably a slew more I can't think of off the top of my head as well. It's sad to know that we're missing so many SF fans. One of these days we should contact them all, just to see what they've been up to. I don't know where you're going, but do you have room for one more troubled soul? -Patrick Stump, Alone Together |

iggy September 18, 2018 - 9:00pm | I too miss many of the old gang. We had a bit of a crusade going on back then. I also appreciate new guys joining the site and bringing new views on SF and the setting. New blood revives the old. -iggy |

I was speaking of membership duration on this site. Speaking of mortal age, alomost all of us are 50'ish. There have been a few "kids" (born post 1990) show up on the site, but not many. -iggy |
