jedion357 December 5, 2018 - 10:38am | Head a question today. The Volturnian cave bear is listed as a Large Omnivore with 200 STA I was asked to estimate the weight and STR for it because the description says 7 meters tall checking the rule book a large omnivore is 2-3 meters and 50 to 150 STA where as the giant omnivore is more than 3 meters and 150 to 300 STA So I think something is off- either its suppose to be a giant creature or its suppose to be a large creature and the writer was just thinking 7 feet tall not really 7 meters. One of my thoughts is 7 meters tall? how does it fit in a cave? What do you all think? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
iggy December 7, 2018 - 7:25am | Seven feet. Seven meters would be massive for a bear. Seven meters is like a dragon in a cave. -iggy |
jedion357 December 7, 2018 - 10:37am | Seven feet. Seven meters would be massive for a bear. Seven meters is like a dragon in a cave. Those are my thoughts, the fact that its a large creature not giant leads me to think that the writer meant 7 feet tall not 7 meters. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Stormcrow December 9, 2018 - 10:41am | The error is repeated on page 26 in room 6, where it is described as being 7 meters tall. But it's clearly an error. |
Stormcrow December 9, 2018 - 10:43am | As for being a large omnivore with 200 stamina points, I think that's just a case of the writer not being interested in conforming to the standard creature types. There's no rule that says you MUST follow those guidelines. |
iggy December 10, 2018 - 11:24pm | Jurak Hangna didn't find that every creature he covered followed the creature types. -iggy |
jedion357 December 11, 2018 - 9:14am | The error is repeated on page 26 in room 6, where it is described as being 7 meters tall. But it's clearly an error. I think this is an easy error to make especially the year it was written as the metric system had not yet penetrated deeply into the US at that time. So i think the bear should be 7 feet or 2.1 meters I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
kinock December 12, 2018 - 1:44pm | I always thought that 7 meters was too big for a bear but I went with it. But it did lead to a very funny situation where one of the pcs got stuck to the bear's paw due to some very bad choices with tangler grenades. |
jedion357 December 14, 2018 - 11:16am | I always thought that 7 meters was too big for a bear but I went with it. But it did lead to a very funny situation where one of the pcs got stuck to the bear's paw due to some very bad choices with tangler grenades. I chuckled just reading that, bet its a good story. EDIT: I just reread this comment again and chuckled. I wish I had sat in on that game. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Falco December 28, 2018 - 1:54am | Fiction writing is more exacting then real life. It should obviously be 7 feet, 500 pounds. I would agree with 200 stamina, especially after having viewed some bears in action. They can really take a pounding. |
jedion357 February 24, 2019 - 11:28am | For comparision a giraffe is 4.5 to 6 meters tall. so at 7 meters a cave bear would be bigger than a giraffe. Large omnivore 7 ft tall or 2.something meters and 200 STA would be my ruling. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
