noah, The Movie

If you're into the Bible at all, I dont recommend it. In fact I dont recommend taking children to see it.

That said I thought it was a decent enough action movie with some drama and interesting character studies but on the whole it was crap for telling the story of Noah. In some ways it pandered to the new age angels watching over us crowd who had been diminishing for years but will likely make a come back now.

The writer(s) really missed the point of certain things in the story of Noah.

The way Noah figured out that the creator wanted him to do something was interesting but it took away most of the miracle and made "the creator" (never called God in the movie) more of an impersonal force

I did like Russle Crowe, Anthony Hopkins and Emma Watson as they turned in good performances- well Hopkins doesn't get a lot of screen time but I liked his "quest for a berry"

Odd how I did like the story telling but think its still a crappy movie.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

It would be funny to see a Biblical-themed movie that is bluntly true to the Bible, to the point of being offensive to everyone. That is, to casual viewers with no firm Christan outlook, it would comes off like 300 where it gets so cough-up in itself, it has questionable morality and ill-gotten pathos, that in the end, is only worth re-watching for the gratuitous content then the plot or drama. While churchgoers would hate it for all the heavy-handed content - violence, rape, nudity, etc. (despite in being all through out the Bible) - and with God being (what they consider as unfairly) portrayed as an insane bastard.

Although, I would love to see a stylistic movie of The Divine Comedy and/or Paradise Lost animated in the style of Gustave Doré's iconic wood engravings (instead of the same old overly stylized fantasy art we see with video games like Dante's Inferno), and played to classical music that is appropriate to each scene. That would be awesome!

Yeah, from the first time I sas the trailer I put that on my "Can't wait to NEVER see" list. Simple fact is that the only 'biblical' bible movies are very poorly made, and the only well made bible movies are not biblical. My solution is to avoid both. It saves a lot of frustration and time.

I still keep thinking that it's a spoof when I see the posters for it. It just seems very silly indeed.

I just got back from it. I found it to be overly politically correct and quite agnostic in translation.

But, hey...it's from Hollywood. It's not like we can expect them to stay true to any story. Case in point: what looks to be a total butchery of the Amazing Spiderman sequel, which is made even more sad onsidering how they did a decent job with the prior installment.

You should see the Random House Bible movies. They have heavies in them, such as Ben Kingsley (Potipher). Very well done and faithful. Good writing, good acting, good direction, good cinematography and good locations. Yes, extra dialog, but they stick only to the ideas that can be discerned from the Bible text. They make you really think about the events, how the people felt and sticks faithfully to the historical context and Biblical meaning and lessons. Scholarly all the way. Plus: Kirk Cameron has nothing to do with the project.

I do not even know why the Noah movie even merits a discussion, let alone viewing.

I actually saw that one with Ben Kingsly. You're right, It wasn't horrible. If Kirk Cameron isn't in it, it has a chance of being bearable at least. :)

Yeah that one is good, Kingsley is almost always good. (Though I was worried about him being in Iron Man 3 but haven't heard an flack over it yet).

I had the misfortune of going to the movie theater and that was the only movie showing that was convient for my time restraints so i thought I'd do a service to the community and give it a brief review.

Not going is on a huge principle for me. The simple fact that I'm not watching the movie (or any other movie for that matter) on rpincible, but that I'm too broke to go to the theaters. If the movie interests me, I'll wait for it to appear on Netflix or DVD.

Otherwise, I still like the big screen. I really wanted to watch Pacific Rim at the theater, as their is something about watching curtain types of movies on the big screen that really helps with immersion — like watching Star Wars on the big screen for the first time.

So I am guessing no one went to see "Son of God"?
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Me too but I also believe that you pay for your pleasure, some people shell out money to smoke, some put money into a motorcycle, others have their big boy toys.

Every so often I take the kids to the movies, the price kills me, its a pain to take young girls to the bathroom 3 or more times during a movie but they really enjoy the excursions with Dad to go out and do something. I try to ballance that with trips to the childrens museum on Fridays after 5pm when its $1. I dont look at it as 'wow that's expensive' but rather as an investment that pays dividends providing I can scare up the extra cash.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

"A" motorcycle...as if just one could constitute a habit or addiction. One is the gateway. Laughing

How many motorcycles do you currently have?  Are you currently rebuilding one as a project?   Smile

I sold one earlier this year so I'm down to seven.

Yes, I am currently futzing around with one. Not so much a rebuild, just an experiment of styling sans serious investment more than anything.
