How about that?

Permanently shadowed craters near Mercury's north pole have been discovered to contain ice, carbon and organics presumed to have been deposited by comets or meteors.

Mission Mercury? Science outpost underground at Mercury's north pole? Murder at Virgin Mercury Hotel and Resort? Solar observatory?

Imagine a Mercury like planet in the frontier with an eliptical orbit and generally ships must approach the planet at aphelion to deliver supplies and passengers. Once you are on the planet you must remain there for essentailly one local year (which might be short like Mercury's) PCs go there and have 60 days to accomplish the whole "campaign" till the next aphelion

60 days is more like a campaign or series of adventures time limit then a one shot mission. Unless you live in the Harry Potter universe.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

That is the idea: locked in for 60 days with various things happening.

Also I was thinking that they need to get something done before the next window for a ship to come and get out before they can be caught.

Well for some fun ideas try the Sy Fy show Helix. They are sorta locked in but have "neighbors" dropping in for visits.

As a real stretch, Space 1889 had a right up and a couple of adventures and some ebooks set on Mercury. Maybe something to "borrow" there.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

The station caretaker has been doing things he shouldn't have been, the pcs found out, he handles them...they are alone until the shuttle arrives

There was also the Traveller Double Adventure 2-Mission on Mithril/Across the Bright Face, by Marc Miller (1980) Here the party has to wait while their ship is repaired at an outpost manned by only three people. They agree to do some planetary exploration in the mean time. Note there are no aliens in this adventure only wilderness and some ruins to explore.

This could bring some ideas for a lonely outpost ideas.
