Turned Off PM Still Receiving Announcements, But Can't Access Them

    Issue Number:
    99
    Severity:
    Moderate
    Description:
An account still receives messages from announcements despite being turned off, which causes the message indicator for that account to blink the number of messages. Can you keep deactivated PM's from receiving announcements, or at least turning off the indicator for deactivated PM's? Also, once you turn off your PM's, you can't access them. It says you don't have permission, so the indicator is only annoying in that case.

You're quite right - I'll work on this.

Resolved. There was also a lil bug in the code where users with PM turned off could send a message to someone just fine, but since they don't have access to their own "sent box" they couldn't delete the messages, so eventually they would meet their quota and be unable to send messages to others. Additionally - if a lot of users had their PMs turned off the site's database would fill up with entries that the authors would never delete!

    Changes:
    • if you have PM turned off, you'll not see notices that you have a PM. In fact, you'll not even see a link to your inbox or sentbox. The entire menu row will be removed from the navigation menu. (I also did this for those of you who turn off your public guestbooks).
    • if you have PM turned off, you can't receive a PM, period. Not even from me.
    • if you have PM turned off but compose a PM to someone else, instead of sending you to an Access Denied page (normally your Sent Items box), it sends you back to the front page of the site (gotta send you somewhere) with a message at the top of the screen that says "Message sent."
    • if you have PM turned off and send a message, it is automatically deleted (not added, actually) from your "Sent Items" box.
