To the Frontier and Beyond!
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Apologies to Chris Donovan as i changed his thread headline to make this the discussion thread for the issue and not just for the cover.

I have to say that the cover was a chosen by Tom S and I suggested the quote from a favorite sci-fi movie because of the Space Station Construction guidlines article and its kind of cool how the cover and the quote work togehter such that you get the impression that the dralasite is pointing at a space station.

EDIT: IN FACT, Tom S's art direction on that cover deserves some special mention: it really is a cut above. Well done Tom

Starting to read it... looks awesome!
Taking care of hubby he had major surgery to remove cancerous bone and the graft with bone from elsewhere on body to save his arm... so having to take a few days off from work, but he needs lots of help. So just popping in when I can.

As an aside: has anyone heard from Sings-with-Spirits (from the other wiki) since the hurricane? She lives in Purerto Rico.

I have to say that I'm torn between making my next character a noble savage or dralasite heavy gunner archetype. Pretty sure a Sgt Bain character would fish for saber tooth eels with a grenade, though.

I'd like to do both.

but then I've wanted to do a defrocked yazirian priest for a long time too and that feeds into the noble savage idea a little. I need a PBP game!

I may have to run one to play test some stuff I've been writing before submitting it to the magazine.

I like Shadow's Red Cyn Station, his photoshopped art for it is cool.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Me too. I know she didn't post here, but I was hoping someone might have run into her somewhere else.

Issue looks good, like the challange but I thought you said the quote on the cover was from a Sci Fi movie? That quote is from a total fantasy movie. Wizard, princess, rogue, young squire, funny beast, court jester, earnest sidekick, evil wizard, army of armored troops who can't do any actual damage to the heroes; yep definitely a fantasy movie.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

As written Star Frontiers really isn't SciFi either...although the expansion boxed set did make an attempt at getting a little closer to that premise.

The 2.0 version of which only one of three volumes made it to print zapped it right back into not-SciFi, I dare say more so than the original boxed set did.
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

SF is definitely more in the Space Opera category than Hard Sci Fi. More action than discussion of topics but still fun.

Yet much like Star Wars, SF has been classified by its creator as Sci Fi...it's a loose definition but it works.

Anyone like the new Archetypes? I'm actually looking for an opportunity to play a dralasite heavy gunner.

Any ideas for another archetype article. I've explored the Barronness:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheBaroness

but I think she works more as an NPC antagonist- possible scope for an article but I think an NPC archetype should be paired with two others: Classic NPC Archetypes (for the Gamemaster)

As presented in the article this archtype can only be an antagonist. BUT if you are running a more military or Star Law or a troubleshooter team that is more militant than either version of this archtype would work as a Player Character.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

I have a Baroness-esque NPC in my Sovereign Domain Authority campaign:

"Vivian Destra was recruited directly from under Yan-Soon's former command with Truane's Star. She is the top ranking officer, second only to Lord Q'ortir-Mein. She is as cunning and dangerous as she is demure and attractive...her primary service is the coordination of ground troops. Her thirst for bloodletting is unparalleled, and she has been known to abandon her post more than once to join her troops for little more than the sheer joy of the slaughter."
