Origins of Sathar bio-engineering

900 years ago the Sathar raided and for all intents and purposes destroyed the Eorna civilization on Volturnus.

Since that time the Eorna , believing they faced extinction have pursued endeavors in bio-engineering to raise up a replacement species.

What if the origin of Sathar engineering began with their appropriating Eorna technology?

Exactly and this opens up ideas for some spy type gaming... your students at the University and someone has murdered a professor, research is missing, can the meddling kids survive and solve the case. Do they get recruited and by whom?

Those meddlesome kids and their wyvole, Woobie.

Solar snack anyone?

Yeah that works for a kernel of an idea. Set it over Equinox Break when no one is at the school but a handful of people and I like it.

University is a strange term. While many beings think of big ivy covered buildings and pipe smoking professors giving lectures this is the 1960s Animal House Stereotype. What we might have is more like an outpost research station where professors, grad students and undergraduates go to do a term of study from many different bastions of higher education from formal universities, to megacorp training schools, to military academies, to vocational schools, to think tanks and independent study groups could have a presence there.

Gives you more spying, intrigue and backstabbing opportunities.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

So maybe a rethink on the University, if the University is studying Volturnus I would think there would some outposts there too... not to mention other places in the system. Probably an extensive zoo and botany section...

Hey University Team/Mascot names... lol we need that detail for the Universities. I was thinking the Quickdeaths would be awesome but maybe something nonSathar from Volturnus would be more realistic.

On bioengineering I was reflecting on how a mass extinction event can collapse a society... what would be the kill points that society could not maintain it’s standard of living and starts slipping backwards in TSL? I mean at a certain point it starts collapsing, until so many are dead finding a mate is even an issue.

Different methods of course viruses and bacteria, destructive larger life forms that destroy the local environment, predators, competive life forms either introduced from outside the native environment or newly evolved created or natural, something that causes sterility or birth defects, environmental change in which a species can not adapt or only a small portion of a population can survive natural or created, terraforming as a weapon or accident, planetary bombardment using asteroids, comets, bombs... removal of a necessary resource for life or advanced civilization... so that only minimal struggling population exists on limited resources.

So as life continues in the aftermath of all sorts of issues it would change both advanced and non advanced life, this would create a bioengineering playground maybe the Sathar have learned to take advantage of this... if it was just xenophobia they could sterilize planets, but they don’t... plus they got that cyborg side to their science.

Mutagens that force biological change might be highly sought after things on the Space Science scene, a black market would exist, governments love their deadly bugs and chemicals not to mention any crazy idea that will create better soldiers just look at the crazy stuff here on Earth that governments including ours research fo war.

Maybe the Eorna used a plague on the Sathar first... just a thought, maybe the reason egg ships exist was the Eorna were/are an aggressive species and those ships were originally built as part of an invasion plan on someone else’s space... if that one funky star map is a hint there is a Sathar system and thus worlds near and maybe the Dino’s attacked the Sathar in a sneaky way they figured they could pull off. But maybe not all the Eorna info on that systems were about survived the attack?

Just thinking about natural, and man made extinction, near extinction events, effects of modern warfare on cities and nations...on a global scale from an outside source versus limited internal warfare I doubt our species could recover quickly any area of the planet to current standards of modern living.
