Adventure Hook To Cause A SF Apocalypse

Okay I have a day off to myself so I am indulging in low budget bad films... and one has a hook people can use so here it is:

Aliens (could be Sathar, Mechanoids, a new threat all together) have been abducting folks from the Frontier and besides messing with their memories, experimenting on them and so on but most importantly implanting the abductees with nanobots... they have been doing this for years. At the same time they implanted some tech ideas in people that have made it to the market and are popular that when they start taking over communications on planets allows them to broadcast planet wide on these systems and alien nanobot activation code that turns the abductees violent, and the abductees blindly physically attack others trying to kill the non-abductee... basically fast moving zombies and if they bite a non-abductee and the non-abductee survives the nanobites spread to that person and eventually cause that person to become violent. The nanobots know who is infected so zombies ignore other zombies.

Now PCs could be trying to just survive, trying to save non-infected, working to block alien signals or overwrite the signal and reverse the effect, turn off the bots. They could be sent to capture infected for study. Could be fighting the incoming follow-up invasion mop up force.

The nanobots need not be "alien" in origin either the hook can be reworked, they could be a military venture meant to be a weapon against the Sathar gone wrong, a splinter racial terrorist group, a corporation's experiment, an attempt to reprogram criminals that has been hijacked by some party in or outside the Frontier, an ancient weapon system accidentally reactivated could be alien or a known race's oopsy at an abandoned colony, maybe one planet wants to rule the Frontier.

If done right this new threat might not be completely revealed... leaving it open to many ideas about who attacked who.

The movie is really a generous 1 and 1/2 Stars... I think 1/2 is probably what it should be rated at.

The one Alien activation/experiment ship is only seen, but it uses cool Wormhole jump tech.

Space Sci-Fi Zombies how many ways? So now we have Nanobots, Psychological Conditioning, Psionic, Pathogens, and Drug Induced causes.

Could the nanobots take over robots or computer systems too? Maybe, maybe not.

Mega corp plot?

or original infected are those that took a storage class trip on a certain line of starliner- during the trip their storage birth was openned and they were revived injected with the nanites and put back under.

Most had a weird "dream" of waking up during the trip but its written off.

Nanites are contageous through sharing of bodily fluids- transfusions, kissing, sex sharing of food or eating impliments ect. Perhaps the sathar have other vectors for introducing nanites abducting seems so risky and problematic.

Modern frontier medicine might also detect the nanites which would be a clue or the catalyst for investigation.

Perhaps in stead of a planet wide broad cast its a count down. All nanite are programmed to activate at Z hour. Plot has been in motion for years. Its actually a sathar plot and Z hour will coincide with some major sathar incursions. Z hour and S hour are 1 week apart.

This is a plot by one sathar clan. in the past wars are prosecuted by all clans and have not been successful. This one clan has hatched this plot to catapult itself to the top of the pile politically. by conquering the Frontier by itself - something that coalitions of clans could not It will be the top dog.

I would start off the adventure before Z hour as an investigation. Royal Marine investigation- who infected Prince Jojo? This is a mater for the Royal Marines! TWith Royal Marine characters the action can transition to KHs encounters easily.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Yes the sleeper ship class would be perfect, for injecting people. Like the Royal Marine twist..

Another Possibility For A Darker Non KH Twist:
You could even have the plan well underway in that several passenger ships have had passengers injected... but PCs could uncover the plot, while in transit, actually something to do on the passenger ship, follow clues, deal with crew and passengers, maybe a murder has happened or a passenger gone missing, that leads the PCs to wonder about the frozen people and other cargo, discover the Sathar agent(s), try not to get killed, try not to get the passenger ship eliminated (destroyed) once the jig is up for the Sathar. Than when help arrives there is the authorities disappearing everyone to a facility, ship and all, listing it as destroyed in a tragic space accident... everyone declared dead. Everyone is whisked off to secret government containment/prison/experimentation base which will not be exactly a safe situation if the Galaxy thinks you and the other passengers & crew are already dead.
