"Proud Warrior Empire" is the Yazarian home worlds... they only thought they lost their home planet. "Retro Space Feudalism" is the Dune universe. "MegaCorps" is where our favorite Frontier mega corporations have moved. "Bug Wars" is either where the Clikks are or its the bugs from Starship Troopers. Hostile Machine Intelligences -- a great place for a variety of beings from the Mechanons to Maximillian from the Black Hole, Nomad and Vger from Star Trek, Hal from 2001 (before he became the kinder and gentler Hal of 2010), the Borg, the Replicators of SG-1, etc. "Mecha Pilot Prefecture"... ah, BattleTech! April 18, 2017 - 6:26am | The sad thing is I am the furthest from being a Trekkie...I have only recently binge-watched TOS and the only reason I caught that was I subsequently watched all the Trek & Next Gen flicks afterwards so it's fresh in my mind. |

Although Search for Spock has some redeeming qualities in it. Christopher Loyd as a Klingon, a better actress cast as Savik. All in all I would say #3 is worth watching in conjunction with 2&4. Skip 5 altogether as "The Trek That Shall Not Be Named" unless you call it "Shatner's Ego Trip I Wanna Direct a Movie if Nimoy gets to direct one!" And then we have Shatner's Ego Trip #2: Star Trek Generations which totally pandered to him. I do like aspects of the movie: seeing the saucer used as a life boat was cool, character development amoung Next Gen characters that was long over do like Data finally using the emotion chip taken from Lore. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

I just can't help but to recall being a pre-teen watching Star Trek: The Motion Sickness Picture in the theater and thinking "This is actually worse than the 60s series". There is a distinguished number of movies that I fell asleep to in the theater, barely enough to count on one hand, and that was one of them. Wrath of Khan redeemed the franchise, Search for Spock was the last one I saw as a kid. Until recent months I avoided Trek altogether, now I've seen all the TOS and six flicks along with the four Next Gen flicks, I might even give the Next Gen series a whirl next...but seven seasons kind of scares me away from that venture. |

Well all I can say is the writing got better as they went along. Season 1 might scare you first really good episode might be the last of season 2 I'll not spoil it by telling you why. But that said there is some stuff leading up to it involving Q thats sort of a prolog to the end of season two which is a cliff hanger. Season 3 opens with a bang and from this point on the writing is better, they bring back Beverly Crusher who i had the hots for. and eventually build to some great storylines involving the Klingons and some invloving the Romulans starting with "Yesterday's Enterprise" and again no spoilers. I have to say the 2 hour season finalle of season 7 was very satisfying IMO. When the writing got better I began to forget my early complaints about the series and even though some things remained that had previously irritated me I rather enjoyed 5 seasons of the show and it and DS9 were my sci fi fix for the 90s conviently delivered through the TV- I use to schedule my assignment in the nursing home by which residents had a TV- I could wash up and put a resident to bed in 15 minutes so I only needed 4 on my assignment that had TVs in their room. I may not have been a very good nurses aid. Deep Space 9 didn't have a bad start per se but it did follow the TNG pattern with the writing getting better. You know you're watching a goood episode when you see the new opening to DS9 and the Defiant is there because then you know its a Worf-isode when they transfered Worf to DS9. A personal favorite: House of Quark- very funny and a lot of fun to watch. Voyager intriqued me at first, loved that the Doctor was a hologram forced to stay in operation 24/7 and he had struggles with this- basically he was the new Data. But I lost interest fairly quickly would catch an episode here and there. It just seemed that Voyager was on a never ending mission to find its way home and never got there. The only big change was adding a chesty female Borg character that wore tight cat suit costumes. Enterprise that was a moving back in time to tell earlier stories with Jonathan Archer intrigued me at first but lost me as well. April 19, 2017 - 6:44am | See, that's what scared me...I watched the pilot episode of Next Generation when it first aired, got about halfway through it, and found something else to do. Perhaps knowing the basic characters via the four films it might be best to just start with season 3. |
 April 19, 2017 - 7:06am | I was never a next generation or DS9 fan. I would watch them but not religiously. I was more apt to watch later season next generation over DS9. I was excited about Voyager and suffered through the first few seasons until 7of9 came in and Tess was gone. I liked the show after that. Yet I was tired of the never ending trip home by the last season or so and was glad they wrapped it up. I was most excited about Enterprise and liked the first seasons when it was independent episodes about first discoveries for the humans and there was little of an overall series storyline. Then they got politically correct and mirrored 9-11 by scorching Florida and I ended up hating the storyline after that. Even when they got back to the original temporal cold war storyline I had problems with Enterprise after that. The writers couldn't let Federation history stay innocent and naive and polluted it with next generation future history that would make the Federation leadership have too many bits of knowledge about their future. -iggy |
April 19, 2017 - 8:21am | What? Nobody likes the stilted dialoge of ST: TNG's seasons 1 & 2? That was Gene Roddenberry inspired, you know. Sort of the like the George Lucas prequels. DS9 vs. Babylon 5: I liked much of the earllier DS9 but the concept started dragging after a while, especially when it became who are they at war with this season. Babylon 5's first four seasons were great, then there was the mostly lack luster fifth season. Overall, though, I liked B5 better than DS9. I thought Voyager was fairly good throughout its run, but yes the journey home concept was long. For whatever reason, for Enterprise, I was into season 1 but by season 2 other things -- raising the kids -- drew my attention away so I know about the alien attack on Earth and some sort of war with aliens but that's about it. I came back in for the last few episodes of the last season and was disappointed that the alien war wasn't with the Romulans but some other interstellar nation. Yes, I noticed they polluted Enterprise with Next Gen stuff too and introduced the Romulan cloaking device when it shouldn't have been available. Joe Cabadas |
