Rinny?

How old is Rinny?

Iggy had a great take on how yazirians labeled children- IIRC branch hanger or tree hanger? for young

So should Rinny be young requiring the PCs to completely care for his needs or should he be a "short Round" who requires looking after but could also be an agent of action during the adventure?

Example what if Rinny has a zamra? he could toss it at a critical moment during a combat.

My natural assumption concerning Rinny's sex is male based off of the name- it feels male.

And I like thinking of him in terms of "short round" from temple of doom as well even though that is my least favorite Indiana Jones movie.

Stats for Rinny?
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Go a different route. A scared child found hiding in a ship is not really the self sufficient rascal we first meet driving his own car.

However Television provides. Have you seen the show Dark Matter from Sy Fy (stupid name) Channel? Five hardened criminal and one young girl wake up with no memories of who they are. The girl can not compete with the criminials in the combat roles but turns out she has amazing non combat skills which fill the gap in the criminals skill set. BUT they also guide and teach her in not only how to survive but in life in general.

Rinny could be the same for PC group. Maybe a a natural starship engineer or computer hacker or knows more about biological specimens than the PCs will ever learn.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

I liked the beginning of dark matter better than when the Asian guy returns to power and kills off his family.

Good point though older teen who "thinks" he's all that and a bag of chips. 1 lvl thrown weapons (zamra honor blade). And a technical skill.

You had mentioned in other postings that maybe Rinny has psionic powers. That may work and it could be a hook to involve a member of the Eorna in the search or later encounters.

One of the things lacking in the Volturnus modules is fleshing out even one significant Eorna NPC.

Chris Putnam's Volturnus project on this site could provide you with such information. I think he provided one such Eorna character. If your players had previously experienced the Volturnus modules, then the Eorna NPC could be someone to bring back in at some point.

Yeah I throw a  lot of mud against the wall to see what sticks.

Strangely I'm not that inclined to go psionic powers although I can see the possibilities of involving a cadres mentioned in those threads as well as the Fo1 in that sort of campaign.

I have long wanted to do something with the Mechanon Revolt and ultimately you pick a detail or two out of the setting and start going with it- in this case the slime bug and the fact I had just written and published some material on the mechanons on volturnus and suddenly this project has new life.

RE: Rinny- I feel like he should have an unspecified technical skill- Technician, Computers or Robotics which ever is lacking in the party of PCs. That will mean he adds value. Unfortunately if the goal is that Rinny desires to eventually be a spacer then you have to be flexible as to what sort of spacer that is. for example Rinny with Technician skill you would expect to be an engineer or Rinny with Computers you'd expect to be the astrogator and etc.

I'm cool with this, he is after all an NPC although he is an NPC i wouldn't mind making a long running associate, contact, or companion.

The one human NPC survivor running the office at Hepplewhite and called Auntie Mae is designed to be a care taker for Rinny so that the PCs could pawn him off if they so desire.

I have "all grown up" Rinny as a second generation character to my original group's PCs.

The child found in the Hepplewhite ship can always be an adopted mascot to the group.
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out
