jedion357 February 16, 2017 - 6:57pm | First question is planet location. I've previously said Volturnus due to the creatures that turn up in the adventure. It was proposed that winged rippers could turn up due to their being in the cargo. I'm still going with Volturnus- its 30 winged Rippers and 5 STrangler Chutes as well as a slither. With the exception of the Slime bug everything in the sample is from the AD book which just happens to be everything found on Volturnus. Since there seems to be corporations (Hepplewhite Inc) in this case and infrastructure to support star ships as well as air cars it has to be post Battle of Volkos with a UPF presence on planet. jedion357 February 16, 2017 - 7:07pm | Area 1 is burned trees but the grass and shrubs are untouched suggesting the ship passed overhead. Personally I dont know about that but what the hey. Area 6 has the ship noesed into a hill and covered with vines and vegitation. Here's my thoughts: bomb went off on take off shortly after leaving the runway. Pilot did his best to bring it down. It slid into the hill and in process dirt and vegitation ended up covering the ship (mostly) It arrested hard when it hit the hill. Maybe a mud slide from recent rain helped hide it which would also help the issue of tall trees only burned. Query? I was under the impression that when NASA lights the candle on a rocket there is no stopping it that thing is going up. KHs ships it would seem could throttle back unless the Hepplewhite ship was attempting to land when the bomb hit. The problem with that is I'm kind of committed ot it being on take off. jedion357 February 16, 2017 - 7:10pm | oil slick on the river, in the swamp, and leaking in the ship? Why does a star ship/ shuttle have a tanker load of oil? And acid apparently. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 February 16, 2017 - 7:37pm | Ok under Mission it says the ship has been missing for several days. and 30 winged rippers and they haven't picked the bodies clean of the two dead yazirians? Rinny's been trapped in the wheel well for several days and he's, "Crying, scared but unhurt." dehydrated at the very least, IMO. On the surface these things make no sense but the reconciliation would be the two crew survived upto the day the PCs arrived on scene and they must have cared for Rinny. Next is the emergency beacon on a parachute? drifted to a tree and dangling 10 meters above the ground. I thought it was to help locate the ship so why eject it? Lets say the ships beacon was destroyed on impact and this parachute affair is a "flare beacon" shot off by the dead yazirians before they died. Why are they dead outside the ship? They stayed with the ship for several days. and all during that time the slime bug was crawling around leaving its slime trails? Rinny was trapped and they spent several days fighting slime bugs because there were a good 12 in the stasis bio containment module that cracked open in the crash. They left the ship with very low stamina after the many battles and discovering the main beacon was out and launched a flare beacon out of desparation. New equipment item: flare emergency beacon Launches X amount of meters in air and decends on parachute. 50 Cr. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
JCab747 February 17, 2017 - 7:30am | I like your line of thinking. Perhaps the oil has something to do with a hydraulics system, perhaps for the landing struts? So maybe it's not an oil as in motor oil. Joe Cabadas |
jedion357 February 17, 2017 - 9:40am | Yeah I like that, write the oil off as hydraulic fluid. Maybe the presence of Acid could be that it was cargo. This ship should have a cargo access hatch. Can't see them loading cargo thru the main airlock. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
TerlObar February 19, 2017 - 4:17pm | As to the rocket engines, it depends on the type. The solid rocket boosters are a hollow cylinder with a solid rocket fuel filling it (think giant versions of the model rocket engines). Once you light those, there is no turning them off. However, the main shuttle engines and most of the main engines on other rockets are actually a liquid fuel and you can just shut the valve off to stop them or control the flow to throttle them up and down. Of course if you're half way up and turn off your engine... Ad Astra Per Ardua!
