jedion357 January 28, 2017 - 9:37pm | I just rescued my rather pitiful copy of B10 Nights Dark Terror which was left behind after the divorce. It's a pitiful copy becasuse I got hosed on ebay when I bought it as it did not have the die cut counters that came with it. Still happy to have it and relieved that I rescued it form my loving X. It is my favorite Basic module. Love the openning of the module: PCs hired to deliver horses I believe to an outpost manor house/small keep but find this place under seige by goblins. they run the gauntlet and reach the safety of the building to aid the NPCs in the seige. Later they discovered clues in the tapestry hanging in the hall that lead them to ruins in the mountains and more adventure. Excellent plot for a Star Frontiers adventure. PCs hired to deliver supplies to an outpost colony only to find it being raided by pirates... And in the aftermath of dealing with the pirates clues lead to ruins someplace. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack January 29, 2017 - 10:26am | I got hosed on ebay E-Bay sellers seem to think those things are worth more than bars of gold. Yeah, I get it, they're a little tougher to come by. But I swear they think they hca orange copies of B3 Palace of the Silver Princess when tehy describe their B10 copies. "Rare" my ass. Orange B3 is rare, B10 is uncommon. It cracks me up when they say rare, especially when the same seller has 1-5 more copies listed for sale. I have yet to go to eBay and NOT see a copy of B10 for sale. |
jedion357 January 29, 2017 - 10:45am | I put more credence to an ebay seller that obviously took the time to photograph his stock and not just put up the cover image he grabbed off the net. Part of the problem I think is there was a web site where someone rated the B modules and the comments on B10 were that it is best or perhaps top 3 B modules and people who buy sell and trade stuff sometimes need to educate themselves on a product will google fu and go oh wow we got a hot one $60! Its worse with MERP modules sometimes. Lake Town $90 the shire $90. and some of those bozos are shrink wrapping their stuff to say its shrink wrapped. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 January 29, 2017 - 10:49am | So thinking about and SF B10 Pirates raiding a settlement outpost is obvious Opportunity for KHs openning: PCs are in a bigger ship with some weapons while pirate ship is sitting in orbit. with speed of zero and light watch crue who are not paying close attention. perhaps the outpost could be in space- small station three HS2 pirate vessels have docked and boarded PCs show up. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack January 29, 2017 - 11:06am | I'm in the dark here as said high prices have kept this module out of my hands for quite some time. Personally I would kill for one of those lower grade $27-49 copies, but reality says those trult are the "rare" copies because everyone is asking three figures minimum for all theirs. Also note how Acaeum demoted the rarity from 4 to 3... |
rattraveller January 30, 2017 - 1:06am | You could always just get a PDF of it at Drivethrurpg. Currently going for $4.99 but does not have the cutouts either. Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go? |
ChrisDonovan January 30, 2017 - 2:08am | Side Note: E-bay has gone to hell in a handbasket. It used to be that buyers got hosed all the time by corrupt sellers but now it's basically inverted. E-bay's policies are driving off all the quality sellers leaving the ones hawking bulk items and inventory remnants. |
dmoffett February 7, 2017 - 6:14am | Im Currently Running B10 "Nights Dark Terror" as a Fifth Edition Mini camapaign. I had to do tons of research to make the BECMI to 5E conversions and build battle maps using dungeonographer. I use a projector to project my battle maps onto the table and then my players move the minitures around. I like battle maps and minis because Theater of the mind play always seems to lead to argument with my players about where they are and how close to the monsters versus how close to terrain. Battle map eliminates all of it. Also had to Modify the story slightly to get the players to accept the Horse seller escort mission. Im also modifying the end part a bit, to fit my general campaign approach. The bombing starts in five minutes. |
jedion357 February 7, 2017 - 6:58am | RE: battle maps & minis vs theater of the mind I had not played much D&D yet when my mother heard about a D&D "class" being held off base and myself and two friends from my neighbor hood joined 17 other junior high age boys. I think it was $10 or $15 to register for the class and it ran 6 weeks (this is back in '79 or '80). The guy running it was using AD&D rules. And a fold out poster map of a castle and minis. The scenario was that a third of us were running away from 2/3s of us and happened on this empty castle with its draw bridge down. I remember opting to dismount and hold the drawbridge with my war dogs (druid character) since I was at the back of our collumn and the enemy was in pursuit and someone was going to need to ascend the tower to get at the drawbridge mechanism. I was also a little disappointed that no one else opted to hold the draw bridge with me as I suddenly realised I was playing Horatius at the bridge dressed solely in leather armor! Luckily no one in the enemy grouped opted to charge me and they reign up at the bridge to decide what to do and shoot arrows at the fool and his dogs and by that moment my compatriots got the bridge mechanism in motion. Good times. I have always loved battle maps and minis ever since. The six weeks ran out and the battle had not reached a conclusion although we likely would have lost since a thief had managed to sneak into the castle and lower the unattended bridge mechanism. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
