September 5, 2016 - 9:58am | Stats? The Telpa first appeared in Star Frontiersman #19 in the story "Creatures of the Frontier" by Daron Patton. Page 37: Type: Small Omnivore Number: 1-200 Move: Very Fast (200 meters/turn) IM/RS: 9/10 Stamina: 10 Attack: 50 (Base Columne +5) Damage: 1d10 (10 Cobalt) Special Attack: see description Special Defense: Reflective skin (half damage from lasers) Native World: Shridkai Belt (Tristkar) DESCRIPTION: Telpa are bizarre vacuum living creatures that have evolved to meet the rigors of space. Resembling miniature spaceships with four limbs, each ending in a small hydrogen 'engine', they are commonly found on the Shridkai Asteroids where they were first discovered. They also frequently show up on space stations, having hitched rides with passing starships. They are capable of surviving Void transit, but are not fast or strong enough to initiate or maintain the velocity necessary to enter the Void. Telpa have an as yet unexplained means of metabolizing any metal they devour into hydrogen, which they use to power their thruster-like limbs as well as other life processes. They have developed exceedingly sharp mandibles and claws which they use to dig for natural resources on asteroids or starships, an obviously attractive food source of food as the processed metal is readily available. The only effective means of removing them from a starship or station hull is to blast them off with lasers or other energy weapons. Fields and screens do not repel them or affect them in any appreciable way. Joe Cabadas |
September 5, 2016 - 10:27am | Patton didn't provide KH statistics, but I suppose we could assume an individual has less than 1 structure point. They might have an ADF of 1 and an MR of 6. Each individual Telpa would do 1/100th of a structure point worth of damage per KH turn? or in a hour? I assume they are the mynocks of the Frontier; more of a nuisance than an outright menance. ![]() September 5, 2016 - 2:30pm | IC, so were talking about AD action to remove them not really KHs they happen by referee fiat in game and PCs are forced to remove them. An interesting scenario would be a Knight Hawks battle that happened to encounter a full crowd of these things: 200. so lets say the militia are out numbered and a couple of division of sathar destroyers happen by. Rather than just die in a straight up battle the commander heads for telpa feeding grounds. Of course, once the sathar learn of the telpa they will seek to obtain some samples for their bio-engineers... BTW who did the art? The magazine does not say, but all of the arwork for Patton's story is marked "Sall" then a date such as "08-25-2012" for the Telpa. There were similar drawings in another issue, so I would have to cross reference it... Oh, here's something, iggy's real name is Eric Winsor! He had a story under "Creative Refereeing" in that issue. Sorry, I just see the screen name and that gets inprinted in my memory more than the real name. Joe Cabadas |
September 5, 2016 - 3:41pm | Unless what I think is an "a" is actually a "u" then the artist signed his or her name as "Sull"... or the "Ls" might actually be ones "1"... I'll check out another issue of SFman when I get a chance. Joe Cabadas |
