No spoiler in first post.

1. I have to say that I am disappointed. Seeing the trailers and realizing that after the very interesting introduction of the Klingons in the previous movie they were not going to be in this one.

2. End credits: interesting that Simon Pegg shares the writing credit with Doug Jung. It's not surprising that Scotty gets some humorous scenes since Pegg wrote it. And cool that Pegg is becoming a major name for the convention Circut in the future: staring in Star Trek, cameo in Star Wars, major sci Fi writers credit.

3. In some ways the 3 new movies explore the past and turn it on its head. They certainly found a way to redo "hero moments" - but different,  from the first movie which are easily spotted.

This post will spoil:

So movie 1 is the reboot and was fairly original I n content though many hated it. My daughters, incidentally loved it because of the baby being born scene. In a reimagined Star Trek , Kirk having been born in the midst of a space battle while his father sacrifices is poetic. I seriously loved the beginning of that movie especially since the birth scene is beautifully done.

2nd movie addresses Space Seed and Wrath of Kahn and touches on Mudd and Tribbles. It also reprises Dr. McCoy "performing surgery" on a torpedo which was from Star Trek Undiscovered Country. It reversed Wrath of Kahn's plot with Spock dying.

This movie, in some ways redoes stuff from The Search for Spock and Star Trek Generations. It addresses Kirk being offered a promo to vice admiral as well as addresses in movie the death of Lenard Nimoy.

So the question is what's left? Will we have to see Chris Pines save the whales as well?

Oh yeah they made a joke out of the fact William Shatner always got his shirt ripped or torn off which was pretty funny and a nice homage to the original.

I haven't seen "Trek Katows to PC" yet, I thought the first one was good and the second one was borderline okay. The PC factor has me steering clear of the box office prices.
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

Oh Lordy, Shadow is in for a surprise, "kawtows to PC"- there is a bomb shell in the movie but I chose not to mention it.

The next one has already set up some differences that need to be addressed. It has already been stated that no one will replace Chekov. The real life death of the actor has impacted the story line.

Now that Sulu is gay will we see romance in that department?

Didn't see the movie yet but wondering how the Spock/Uhura romance is going.

In another part of the Star Trek universe Paramount/CBS are doing a new series which will be released on CBS all access in the US and Canada only (Netflix to the rest of the world). Which universe this takes place in and what time is not certain yet but given the latest trend of going multi-platform (Marvel Universe) it may be in the current one.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Incidentally, Sulu's husband is the other writer.

I enjoyed it... had date night with hubby at the dinner movie place, so beer while I watch! :) Grown-up movie time.

I liked the Space Station though it makes all the other space stations look sad in other ST movies/tv shows.

I just accept the changes... I don't want to spoil the plot or the things I found funny for others.

Though I am easy to please I love "Green Slime" & other great films like "Killers From Outer Space" so I just go to enjoy not compare it to Shakespeare or movies like "Toro, Toro, Toro" those are all great for other reasons but not necessarily "fun", though Shakespeare was a dirty old man with his jokes.

:)

I am a well-known (in other circles) detractor of JJTrek.  That being said, this one I can endorse as not only being a decent movie, but also decent Trek.  The FX and action scenes are still too kinetic (and the motorcycle gag is still BS).  If I never hear a Beastie Boys song in conjunction with Trek it will be too soon.  The humor is still (mostly) jokesy and quipsy.

But the story has surprising depth.  The entire cast is given significant time.  The antagonitst is presented in such a way that you actually can care about him once you understand what is going on.  The only way they could have improved on him is to have him make a full heel-face turn at the final moment (they certainly set it up so he could have done so, anyway).  There was a great deal of fanservice/easter egging, and none of it felt forced or gratuitous.  And, by the Great Bird they finally fixed those thrice-damned nacelle pylons!

8/10 stars.

The "PC" bits are organically presented and minor enough that you can just ignore them.

Find a local theater chain that has a "discount day".  I know Wehrenburg and Regal theaters have them.  Schedule permitting you may be able to get as much as a 50-60% discount.

I liked it best out of the three so far... the glare in the first was too much for me but I had fun with that one, 2 I was not impressed with Kahn, he was too pasty and just not Charismatic enough on the film plus I was a bit bummed they rehashed Kahn so soon in the story line. I guess they are learning how to film a ST film what elements need to exist in the plots, like original plot lines are preferred.

I watched till the images stopped if you pay attenetion to the lines in the film there are some things in the credit backgrounds. :)
