September 10, 2007 - 6:17am | Good points all. 1) I'll make the "Who's Online" block not show up for anonymous viewers. 2) I'll make the green online indicators always show gray (offline) to an anonymous viewer. 3) I'll make sure the "Track" feature doesn't work for anonymous browsers. 4? Should the "USERLIST" tab return an empty list for anonymous viewers? 3. We wear sungoggles during the day. Not because the sun affects our

![]() September 10, 2007 - 6:46am | What people often want to know is how many people are signed up before they sign up, not really who (who is a concern of very few). You can either make the Userlist empty to anonymous viewers or you can give them a popup box that says they don't have permission to view that feature |
September 10, 2007 - 7:37am | Please sign off and browse around a bit and let me know if this is sufficient? 3. We wear sungoggles during the day. Not because the sun affects our

![]() September 10, 2007 - 12:52pm | I think some folks might like a 'stealth mode' in their profile. This stealth mode 'default' ought to be able to be turned off when desired (but reset to 'stealth' when they leave the site). I know when I used to work with a computer all day, it was onerus to deal with IM's randomly... I needed my chat program running for some functions (usually used yahoo messenger), but absolutely had to have it set on stealth. It is not an issue for me now-a-days, but I can imagine other folks out there who might like to browse the site without everyone knowing. <insert witty comment here> |

This stealth mode 'default' ought to be able to be turned off when desired (but reset to 'stealth' when they leave the site). That feature already exists!! You can go to your user profile and select "Edit" -- there are plenty of options for privacy there. On that page you'll find a link called "Information" where you can change some additional features, such as "Hiding" your online status which will do exactly as you suggest :-)I know when I used to work with a computer all day, it was onerus to deal with IM's randomly... ![]() September 10, 2007 - 1:28pm | OK, I found it now. That 'tab' ought be called privacy options, instead of 'information'. You might make an option for buddy lists, and have different privacy options for the select folks on that buddy list. <insert witty comment here> |
September 10, 2007 - 5:18pm | OK, I found it now. That 'tab' ought be called privacy options, instead of 'information'. That's a good idea. A "Buddy List" option would more or less be exactly like a "QuickLinks" option, just with users instead of project frontpages. We could even have a way by which users can send a bulk PM to all in his or her buddylist. Additionally, there could be different privacy options for people on his or her buddy list (like you mention). I'll give this some thought. I like the idea. You might make an option for buddy lists, and have different privacy options for the select folks on that buddy list. 3. We wear sungoggles during the day.
