    Slow Page Loads

    Issue Number:
    67
    Severity:
    Moderate
    Description:
I've been getting slower than normal page loads on project document pages. Is it possible that you need to divide up .css or .js files a little?

So does it seem any better since I initiated caching?  Also - there is now an option in your profile (Page 2) where you can turn off the javascript for the curvy corners.  Although it makes the site a bit uglier, you could try that and see if you prefer it.

Every now and then I notice it's a little faster, but mostly the corners things slows it down, especially when I have the chat window open. But I like the rounded corners, so I just deal with it.

I just had an idea, though. Instead of putting the rounded corners option in the profile editor, how about putting it at the bottom of the profile block in the navigation bar. That way it's there as a reminder to people that if they don't like the lag, they can click that and it stays selected or deselected every time they visit (in other words, not a local cookie).

I've given this some thought - I don't know that people will be interested in turning curvy corner script on and off regularly.  I think people will either have the performance to spare and not mind it, or will be annoyed by the performance of it and turn it off, as bandwidth and computer power allow.  I personally keep it off while doing rapid site modifications, and don't really mind turning it on and off in my profile.

Another thought: if there's a rapid way to turn it on/off in the left sidebar, then why stop with that setting?  Lots of personal settings could be managed in the same way through session cookies.  I'm not sure I want to open that can of worms.  I'm fairly pleased with the settings existing in the profile edit forms.  Also, an argument could be made that if I put the option there, people will see the curvycorners as a buggy thing that needs special treatment - ya know?
