I like how these turned out.

Like them but the hvy looks Han Solo ish me thinks. In a shoot out between Buck and Han, Han wins; remember he shot first at Greedo and habits die hard. Though karma turned out to be a bitch for Han in the most recent movie.

This is what I was trying to approximate:

As opposed to the "standard"

Round 2

Note I also did a little tweaking to the Standard and the Hold out.

I'm just saying that there is a bit that that immediately reminds of Han Solo. I like the first set more. Though I feel that these drift toward machine pistol (bullets) your inspiration drifts toward a 70s or even earlier almost art deco slick sci Fi vibe. We're those props in a movie or show?

Yeah. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.  Came out right after the original Battlestar Galactica.  Gil Gerrard played Buck. Erin Grey played Col Deering.

If you're going for the Buck Rogers look and you are. But they're more like what I figure a gyrojet pistol would be. That's the problem, once Han Solo use a blaster that looked like a Broomhandle Mauser, every one wanted a blaster that looked like it.
Personally I'd rather my SF lasers look like a Robotech Galliant H-90 or a Babylon 5 PPG.

But then SF lasers have a power setting like Star Trek phasers do, only no stun.

True enough.  I do what I can with the resources I can.  I can't draw for crap, so I have to use "toolkits" like PMG. *shrug*.

My players tell me that the game "feels" Buck Rogers and looks (based on the visual refs I use a lot like B5, so I'm getting it mostly right I guess. :)

Well I can draw but I'm not opposed to methods of cheating if the results look better.

Rifle to go with the pistols...this one doesn't match it's original so much though...

Cool, I sort of figure in RL we have weapons that look different some are monsters of "cool" but no better than than a less "cool" looking one... just an observation from a couple years back looking at weapons for fun, style sells to certain demographics over can the weapon perform as they want. Manufactures thus have many different kinds.

I prefer more archiac weapons than most people but the following is an example of what I mean: I went indoor target practicing with a 60lb LongBow and wooden arrows, the other folks all had the newest pully assisted compounds of all sorts of fiber this or that material with impressive poundage (you could put an arrow through an engine block poundage), scopes, laser targeting sysems and all sorts of tech on their bows... very cool looking. I was mocked as I patiently waited my turn, an archiac inacorite bow, no good for hunting or target practice, you'll neve learn to shoot with that... these gentlemen (many with big muscles) where not even hitting the target. When it was my turn I bull eyezed evey arrow and responded only then to a stunned group of "hunters" "If you can't hit the deer, you can't eat the deer." The owner who had seen and heard them all being jerks laughed and said "Careful boys I do believe she could kill you all even if you tried hiding behind shrubs." and then to me privately "I knew you where going to smoke them."

My non gun example point is some people buy a lot of stuff they do not know how to use or is not actually suited for their body type or abilities and that includes guns, my god the dumb I have seen with guns and again I work on the one perfect shot principle versus shoot the hell out of the place with cool.

So there would be lots of designs and some weapons would look cool but be no better than another less cool one.

Sometimes weapon styles are dictated rather than thought of. World War II weapons are pretty good examples. In the pre war years when countries had time and resources to build weapons some fancy and difficult to manufacture weapons were pretty common. Thompson .45cal SMG would be one example. When the war kicked into high gear simpler weapons were needed not simpler to use but simpler to manufacture. Thus the M3 .45 cal SMG was born (AKA the Grease Gun).

Of course in the looking cool department the Thompson beats the Grease Gun pretty much hands down.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Good point on utility, easy to use, easy to manufacture and so on because of need.

Another good example of that would be the infamous Sten gun.  Bullet-wasting beast of a weapon, but you could turn them out by the dozens in decent garage workshop and they were simple enough to operate that just about anyone could shoot them.
