TerlObar March 5, 2016 - 11:12am | I've managed to go almost 4 years without having to do this but the time has come. We need submissions for the Frontier Explorer. It's time to start working on issue 16 and I have exactly one story and the back cover comic for the issue. So I need your help. If you have anything that you have worked on that you would like us to share, could you please consider submitting it to the magazine for publication. There has been quite a bit of great stuff shared here recently: equipment, vehicles, weapons, star systems, and cadres, that would be wonderful to have in the magazine. And while I could probably cull the material, it would be helpful if the authors could do that and submit it themselves. That way I know exactly how they want to be credited and they can add any corrections and acknowedgements that they feel are appropriate. If you want to submit, simply put the material into a text document and submit it at http://frontierexplorer.org/Submissions. At that point it will get into the editing queue and the editors will start working on it and contact you if they have any questions. If you don't have an account on the Frontier Explorer site and would like one, let me know and I'll create it (I've disabled account creation due to problems with spammers). You don't need an account to submit articles but if you do have one, it let's you track your articles through the editing queue. If you can help out by submitting, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have a couple of articles I know are coming but not nearly enough for a complete issue. I need any submissions by the end of the March at the latest but earlier is always better. Thanks for your great work. Ad Astra Per Ardua! ChrisDonovan March 5, 2016 - 1:15pm | I submitted my Hover Platform write up before you purged the other board to kill the spammers. Do I need to resubmit it? I'm also still tinkering with my "Ecology of Sathar Agents" piece that I've had several suggestions I submit. What other sorts of things are you looking for that I could flesh out? I got a ton of gear stuff, some other vehicles, and couple of critters. Not all of it is equally useful though. Oh, my account over there is still down, last time I checked. |
TerlObar March 5, 2016 - 1:49pm | It seems to be missing so It might have been accidentally purged. So yes, please resubmit it. What was your account name and I'll look into that. As to other stuff, the sathar agent stuff would be great and any of the gear or vehicles you've developed would be good as well. Ad Astra Per Ardua! ChrisDonovan March 5, 2016 - 2:11pm | Same name as I use here: ChrisDonovan. Do I need to have it recreated before I can submit? |
TerlObar March 5, 2016 - 3:35pm | No. I'll take a look at the accounts. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
ChrisDonovan March 5, 2016 - 3:41pm | Thank you. One last question so I know better how to consider my submissions. I know that once or twice Star Frontiersman did articles based of existing properties (I speak specifically of the Xenomorph and Colonial Marine stuff). Does Explorer have the ability to do that, and if so are you interested in "Frontiers" tie ins like that? |
TerlObar March 6, 2016 - 7:41am | Yes I think we can do that. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
KRingway March 6, 2016 - 4:20pm | I could work this into an article, if it's of interest: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/7902 I'd just need to create some more polished artwork to go with it. |
iggy March 6, 2016 - 5:02pm | http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/7902 I'd just need to create some more polished artwork to go with it. This would make a good article. Go for it. -iggy |
KRingway March 7, 2016 - 6:14am | What size should I make the illustrations? Is there a reference guide for such things? |
ChrisDonovan March 7, 2016 - 10:04am | OK, I sent in several of my vehicle/gear writeups. I have 3, maybe 4 more I'm working on (1 vehicle, a gear item, a corporation write-up, and an article. I'll try to submit them in a day or so. |
TerlObar March 7, 2016 - 3:24pm | Not really. Make them whatever size you want and I typically fit them in (scaling as necessary) to make everything fit. Higher resolution is always better as it's easier to scale down than up but otherwise we work with whatever is provided. What size should I make the illustrations? Is there a reference guide for such things? Ad Astra Per Ardua! Tollon March 7, 2016 - 5:25pm | Teriobar did you get the item I sent you about a month ago?
|
TerlObar March 7, 2016 - 8:10pm | Maybe? What was it? Teriobar did you get the item I sent you about a month ago? Ad Astra Per Ardua! Tollon March 8, 2016 - 2:26am | It was weapon cards for all the orginal weapons.
|
TerlObar March 8, 2016 - 6:13am | No, I didn't get that. Very strange. Could you resend it. Those would be awesome. Ad Astra Per Ardua! ChrisDonovan March 8, 2016 - 8:10am | Just to let you know, the Submissions page seems to be working, but none of the tabs on my profile are. They just give "cannot complete" errors, so I have no way of knowing if you have any questions or need anything more about my submissions. |
TerlObar March 8, 2016 - 7:31pm | Where did you send it? I'm not seeing it show up anywhere. I resent it about an hour ago. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
TerlObar March 8, 2016 - 7:32pm | That's strange. I'll have to look into that. But it shouldn't matter. If you click on the submissions link in the smaller tab bar you should see all the things you submitted. We typically post comments on those or e-mail you directly if there are questions/problems. Then you can just upload new versions if needed or reply to comments on the items directly. Just to let you know, the Submissions page seems to be working, but none of the tabs on my profile are. They just give "cannot complete" errors, so I have no way of knowing if you have any questions or need anything more about my submissions. Ad Astra Per Ardua! ChrisDonovan March 8, 2016 - 11:54pm | ^I'll keep that in mind. I tried signing out and signing in again and that seems to have worked for now. |
Shadow Shack March 9, 2016 - 8:40am | I'd like to submit my Atlantic class freighter , however I'm not sure if the submission format would accept the multiple graphics. Each deck has a corresponding key which might get lost in the submission process, assuming I could load all the graphics. Also noteworthy, it references the Pacific class freighter Gullwind base model which was featured in SFman (no idea which issue), so either that would have to be a footnote or perhaps the Pacific should be submitted first followed by the Atlantic in a later issue (or next article in same issue)? |
TerlObar March 9, 2016 - 7:48pm | You can attach as many images as you want. You just have to do them one at a time, but you can attach them all before hitting the submit button. Just compile all the keys (organized by deck number) into the document with the description. It shouldn't be a problem. And I just want to say thanks to everyone that has sent in stuff. I'm a lot less worrried about this issue now. Keep it coming, it's all great. Ad Astra Per Ardua! Shadow Shack March 14, 2016 - 11:09am | I submitted a game synopsis. Sad to say the submissions software turned it into a huge run-on paragraph...the original material can be found here for proper paragraph breaks: http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/1964 |
TerlObar March 15, 2016 - 8:42am | Yeah, that comment section is for short bits. Usually the submissions are attached as files. Not a problem though as we can grab it from the link here. ChrisDonovan March 15, 2016 - 9:28am | Is it too late to submit? I have one more article you might want. |
TerlObar March 17, 2016 - 7:27am | It's never too late. Even if it doesn't make it to this issue it will make it in the next. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
KRingway March 18, 2016 - 9:25pm | Unfortunately I won't have the article ready in time |
TerlObar March 18, 2016 - 10:54pm | No problem, just submit it when you finish it. The submission queue is always open so whenever someone has something they can submit it and we'll get working on it. Ad Astra Per Ardua! JCab747 March 22, 2016 - 1:20am | http://www.starfrontiers.us/node/7902 I'd just need to create some more polished artwork to go with it. The information about Sathar weaponry would be great. I used it for my own campaign, especially coming up with a spin-off to show how S'sessu weapons are designed differently that the Sathar's in order to show that they have been separated for some 20,000 years.
