Traveller has a few decent designs that could be incorporated as HD explorers.

These were found on deviantart.com ---

The only one I see as long enough would be the color one, the next to last and maybe the last one.  The others look more like the "large end" of regular explorers to me.

But that's just me.  Those are all very good designs.  I especially like the first one. Thanks for posting them!Cool

Yeah I'm rather impartial to the first eight wheeler too. Cool

That one is the same as the second track mobile, it just has the rear cab removed/converted to a flatbed hauler.
The double track is also the same model, just with a "trailer" tracker added on to the back.

BTW: sorry about your tracked explorer not making it into my entry.  Sings-with-Spirits is a canon stickler and she says "no tracked explorers"...I would have left it in myself.

You can always put non-canon material on the other wiki (http://starfrontiers.info/wiki).  Also, that's strange becuase I remember seeing lots of non-canon stuff on the wikia wiki.  Have they removed it all?

Are you talking about the wiki I have been contributing to?  They seem to be ok with "original" material as long as it's marked where it's from (most of my stuff has passed muster, apparently), but altering "pure" canon things seems to be a no-no (no 6-wheel normal explorers, tracked explorers, etc).

I'm just glad most of my contributions seem to be well-received.

Apparently so, my Chemical Drives write up was removed. TWICE. As in after it was removed I resubmitted it and it was removed again.

Apparently the site owners or whoever has appointed themself as chief arbitrator feels the undefined not-rule of "burns one load of fuel per trip" is better than detailed explanations of use and costs. Loosely translated: "250Cr for a load of fuel provides unlimited acceleration/deceleration but they can't jump".

Innocent

Which begs the question: Why have a wiki site? Just open the rule books instead.

Every time I visit that site I find another reason not to contribute.

Look guys, I really don't want to find myself starting a "wikki war".  I was just commenting on being puzzled by the sitauation.  All I'm trying to do is add a little bit to the game I like.

Sorry to hear that. I value the input form all users. I look-up Chemical Drives history, and I cannot any other user besides SWS and I. I have a felling that there are somethings missing, but but I cant put my finger on it. (I'm generally hesitate to throw out data.)

By the way, are you Gergmyster?

My initial goal as a SFW user was to pile as much information as possible, trying to wrangle all the loose-bits of information, scattered across a number of rule books, modules, magazine articles, Gary's secret porn stash and so on, without having to fumble though a ton a text, trying to find it all. In my focus to achieve my own end-goals, I forgot why people form RPG-based wikis in the first place: To have a place to submit fan-created content, were is is readily available. (Hell, that is why I started the Mutant Future Wiki! When its not promoting my personal favorite post-apocalypse fiction, with scant conversion notes, that site is pure house-rule content.)

Now that I'm seeing the big picture, I have been too cough-up with my own efforts to notice that the SFWiki is a mess with no overall focus, with everyone stepping on everybody's toes, trying to do things our own way. I like the idea of finding that one, obscure magazine article, who's name eludes me, without having to dig through a ton of files. A little search on the Wiki, and WHAM! the information is at my finger-tips! As noted, I also like rule-wikis, as they are a great hub to present ones ideas that might be useful to someone. This Wiki should accommodate to both desires, without ether side being sidelined.

I can agree with that, Malcadon.  Perhaps an accomodation could be made to both interests by using the system (if it could be implemented on your wikki) that Wookiepedia uses by labeling articles either "Canon" (pure "official" SF) and "Legends" (for other stuff).  That way the purists get what they want but those of us who want to offer up material to expand on the canon can also participate?

The only curent listing I can find for Chemical Drives there is right out of the rulebooks.

I lost interest in the site after my work was removed twice. My guess is somewhere along the lines it went from a gathering of all things Star Frontiers to canon material only. Maybe that happened before my submissions were culled, maybe it happened after, I don't know as I stopped popping in. I only revisited it from the recent submissions being discussed here, and am seeing discussion that reads like "canon or the highway, pal".

Which, as I said earlier, I'd just as soon flip through my rulebooks.

No, I keep the same surname on every board I participate on.

Funny.  I don't think of the SF wiki as canon only.  I don't go there often.  Ususally I use it when I am googling for a specific rule or event or item from SF, canon and fan.  I get a google link to the SF wiki and then I refresh my memory on the topic and continue with my work.  I just checked around and there are several fan creations there such as Boon-Sheh and Nagana.  I thought it weird that someone was thinking of the site as canon only so I asked what site we were talking about to reconfirm.  Mostly I see Malcadon's posts here about one of his latest updates and I feel good that someone is indexing all this material that everyone is generating.  If someone is power tripping I feel sorry for that person because they are missing out on the great universe that only a community can generate together.

I was vaguely aware of the other wikki, but I actively had to hunt it down.  It's a lot more limited than the one I've been posting on.

This is someone else's, correct?

http://starfrontiers.info/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

As for the whole canon situation, I wouldn't say it is as bad as all that, iggy.  If it were, most of my stuff would be gone.  I've had a run in with Sings over a couple of specific issues, but she isn't pulling my stuff wholesale.

The starfrontiers.info site is mine (in fact it's running side by side with this site on the same server).  I had started putting stuff there, and then putting all the Star Frontiersman articles on-line before Mal started the one on wikia.  At that point, mine sort of stagnated.  And yes, it doesn't show up in searches as well so it's a bit more obscure and doesn't have as many articles.

However, it was really intended more for GM's that were running games in the forums on that site to put up the information for their game and to have access to other material to link to, much like obsidian portal.  I just always seem to have too many irons in the fire to keep up with everything I'm working on and that wiki kind of fell by the wayside.

IT WAS A CATEGORY PAGE!!

I'm so sorry! I did not know there was content there. At the time, I was recognizing the entire site, to make it easier to navigate. I reordered the categories of a ton of pages, and removed redundant or unused categories. It was caught in the bulk restructuring.

Good news! I found the history, and I can restore it.

I think they have demonstrated it can get around Sibeira.  I would like to see it in sand and in open waters.  It foats good but in open water with some minor waves, how will it do?  They made tanks float for D-Day but neglected to test them in rough seas and lost them before they could get to the beaches.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but yeah...small is definitely the big strike against it.

There are several pics in the photo gallery in dirt, I imagine those paddle tires would handle sand well enough.

{EDIT} Gah, there goes that multi-quoting issue again...

Probably the same as an explorer as written in canon. Wink

<sigh> It's already been removed, 5 minutes ago as of this writing according to the wiki page. Since the site shows who did the edit via the recent activity side bar, at least now we know who is on the canon only power trip. I'm done with the wiki site, y'all might as well make it a rulebook pdf now...

P.S. Chris, check your ARC entry as that was hit by canon-only too.

I wonder how it would fare on rocky broken terrain. I think those wheels might not get enough purchase, especially on any sort of slope.

Incidentally, there is a Russian all-terrain composite motorcycle which is also very cool:

I like the Russian one better as an aux unit for an explorer.  It just looks more rugged and "explorer-y"
