Tchklinxa December 20, 2015 - 10:15am | Okay I am doing some kitchen cabinet cleaning & organizing today... I have already discovered if the end of civilization occurs I think I have a years supply of instant potatoes. So I put a bad free movie on to keep me entertained while I try and organize the kitchen... Rise of the Animals (do not pay for this one, I found it free on Amazon Prime). However despite the film being classic bad (buckets of blood bad) it occurred to me on my coffee break the premise of all domestic and wild animals going on a killing spree caused by unknown forces (disease, mechanon or sathar manipulation of the creatures brains somehow, weird cosmic rays, radiation contamination, toxic pollen, toxin in animal feed and so on) could make for one crazy adventure. The crazy animal mayhem where squirrels, turtles, fish, sparrows and deer along with cows, dogs, cats and horses are out to get you... in SF land also giant fuzzy caterpillars, arns and what ever else the colonies keep as pets. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Shadow Shack December 20, 2015 - 4:34pm | Sounds like something that will be airing on the SyFy channel, right after one of their numerous shark/dinosaur/spider/crocodile hybrid monster movies. |
Tchklinxa December 20, 2015 - 5:08pm | Oh I also found Beasterday... Mutant carnivorous giant Bunny that prefers human flesh and lays giant eggs of course. So over in my Gamma Dawn setting I foresee a Beaster Bunny as a critter. LOL. Nothing says end of civilization as we know it in spring like the yearly migration of the Beaster Bunnies. Also enjoyed today while tearing the hell out of the kitchen & having a few folks over, Sharknado, Attack of the Giant Leeches, & Giant Shrews. Well almost done with my ale break time to get scrubbing on more shelves... "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Shadow Shack December 21, 2015 - 12:34am | For mutant carnivorous rabbits --- minus the egg laying --- look no further than Jaxxon from Marvel's Star Wars run. |
Tchklinxa December 21, 2015 - 7:46am | For mutant carnivorous rabbits --- minus the egg laying --- look no further than Jaxxon from Marvel's Star Wars run. LOL (Lepus Carnivorus). Very much like the smart GW mutant Bunnies the Hoop in basic concept... I like em. But I bet if we see them hopping around live action SW everyone would freak out. LOL "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Shadow Shack December 21, 2015 - 4:07pm | Jaxxon (and Amaiza, his companion lady in red in those shots) were acknowledged by the RPG. They made several recurring appearances in the Marvel Comics series --- and I'm told they also appeared inthe more recent Dark Horse Comics run of the title (Marvel reacquired it a few years ago, since Disney owns both Marvel & Lucasfilm). Jaxxon has a Millenium Falcon-esque ship with eht cockpit centered up front sans mandibles and the turrets are located where the Falcon's port & starboard docking collars would be. That first run of Star Wars had some of the best SW stories ever written. |
Tchklinxa December 22, 2015 - 10:49am | Nice, I just think a lot would hate them like Jar Jar in live action, gut hunch. I wouldn't, but some folks hated the fish races too in live action. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Shadow Shack December 22, 2015 - 4:40pm | People hated Jar Jar not because he was a Gungan, they hated him because he was irritating. Had he been more intelligent/less child-like/more sinister/something resembling cool etc it would have been a much different reaction. OTOH children and girls of all ages loved Jar Jar. It's only us grown up from the OT SW fans that hate him. |
KRingway December 24, 2015 - 5:06am | I remember watching an awful film called 'Bats' (starring Lou Diamond Phillips) at 2am one xmas morning 10 or so years ago. Terrible film - but funny for it. 'The Giant Leeches' was riffed by MST3K: https://youtu.be/-DdVeKRRVSo?t=28m42s They also riffed 'The Killer Shrews', which is about giant shrews that have been created by science gone wrong but would actually work as a setting and premise if shrews were something else: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zl0-K1MwJ9c There's also 'Night of the Lepus' (killer rabbits): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yww2x3bm9k But I think one film that actually handles the theme quite well is 'Wolfen': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1BH0uPIruQ |
Tchklinxa December 24, 2015 - 12:30pm | I think the only ones on the list I have not seen yet is Bats & Night of the Lepus. Giant Leeches & Shrews are on my create list mawahaha... Wolfen was an interesting film. Mesa of the Spider Women is a good mad scientist one. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 December 24, 2015 - 6:08pm | I remember wolfen. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa December 24, 2015 - 6:14pm | Some weird critters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7ve27Nfktw I like the mutant pig "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Tchklinxa December 24, 2015 - 6:17pm | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRTqNaSjvgM More RL inspiration "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 December 25, 2015 - 7:38am | Just came across a review for a movie listed as "E" grade, reviewer commented on student films having better props, and oddity of the porn actress having top billing when she was only in the film 10 minutes. Definitely qualifies as a bad movie: Isis Rising, Curse of the Lady Mummy http://horrornews.net/92243/film-review-isis-rising-curse-lady-mummy-2013/ I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa December 25, 2015 - 12:52pm | Oh I will have to watch that! Sharknado is still a great stinker idea... deadly sea life sucked into a hurricane ravages a colony... humm might work, change the critter to something that is adapted to being sucked up by water spouts/storms and so on to spread its self about a mostely watery environ... a water world critter, that is attracted to storms as part of it's migration habits. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Tchklinxa December 25, 2015 - 12:57pm | http://horrornews.net/92243/film-review-isis-rising-curse-lady-mummy-2013/ Darn that one is not free on AP, I will check dimple next. If I can find it cheap local, well sounds like a winner for my bad film collection. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Tchklinxa December 25, 2015 - 1:04pm | I think I saw Bats... again dimple run & Night of the lepus will need to be a used find too... I found The Devil Bat so I am off to watch that little gem. Maybe we can sci-fi up that classic. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Tchklinxa December 25, 2015 - 3:04pm | Well actually Devil Bat is sci-fi horror. The plot could be easily adapted. Brilliant Scientist works for a company that has made millions off his formulas (beauty/perfume type stuff) and he becomes bitter and decides to get back at his boss via killing off folks. He is all hurt because he is not rich, even though he chose his contract obligations as being paid up front in cash versus getting stock and dividends and that sort of thing which would have made him rich, his boss even gives him bonuses becuase he recognizes the difference in income came about becuase of this early decission by the scientist and doe not want to be a total jerk about it. Anyhow our mad scientist in the film takes a small harmless critter (the bat) and mutates them (using electricity) into giant bats that he trains when they are small to attack a specific rare scent (formula) which he manages to trick his victims to put on (as part of trying out his new formula) and then the giant bats swoop down latter and attack the poor people killing them. So potential... mutated small creature trained to kill. You really can using proper DNA coding to change the size of an animal (they did it with mice) so the idea is sound just maybe not the method. But maybe there is a small Frontier creature that responds to electricity differently if you want to retain that odd aspect. Star Law plot I would think, as rich people are getting killed. I could see a disturbed mad vrusk scientist playing the part of bad guy. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
ChrisDonovan December 25, 2015 - 6:23pm | Nature gone wild films were popular for a couple of years as made-for-tv movies in the early-mid 80s. For pure schlock value, I'll throw in Kingdom of the Spiders from the 70s (has William Shatner in it). Also just about anything from Asylum Films today. |
KRingway December 26, 2015 - 4:44am | Phase IV is quite well made and has an interesting premise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuhgBvOWb_k |
Tchklinxa December 26, 2015 - 3:36pm | I went and watched the trailers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aQtRZF5w8g (Kingdom of the Spiders) Awesome both suggestions... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFVq0Ij0mE8&spfreload=10 empire of the any documentary Killer Ants https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIutTNE-Kzk Giant Ant Hill Excavation (this is just amazing) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFg21x2sj-M "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 December 28, 2015 - 4:36am | 2.5 words: Tangled Chute-nado. Acid and electricity combo on volturnis Or Tangled Chute Swarm I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
