I've been working on this off and on for a while but I've finally finished recreating the original Port Loren map as a fully remastered digital file.  You can find the fruit of my labors here:

http://starfrontiers.info/wiki/index.php/File:PortLoren.png

The map is designed to be printed at 100dpi and each square is 50pixels.

@TerlObar, is this a reminder for me to get back to the Sketchup model?  Wink

@iggy, not really but you could if you wanted to.  I had started this a long while back and having finished my last paper for the semester, wanted to work on something SF related and decided to finish it. At some point I want to give the same treatment to the fan made star port map so it has exactly the same style.

I want to take all the fan made maps (there are four that I have gathered) and make a full city map by filling in the blanks between then.  I mentioned the Sketchup project in jest because I need a little self prodding to get back on it.

I'm aware of two - the various Port Loren reboots and the Starport map. Unless my warehouse district map counts as one, what are the other two?

Those are the two I'm aware of also.  I was just looking at the spaceport map today and I think I might tackle that and get it looking exactly like the original in terms of colors and such.

If I had tons of time to kill, along with the resources to do so...I would love to belt out a Port Loren map along these lines:

There are the Pit Stop, the Star Port, one called Downtown Port Royal Section A (which may not actually be Port Loren), the Wharehouse District, and a hand drwon corner just beyond the upper right hand corner.  I also have a pencil map someone did of Port Loren that grows it around the edges 4 or 5 squares finishing out some of the cut off buildings like the Government Building and the Hospital.  That make more than four.  I did a quick count when I posted last and missed some.

FWIW the Pit Stop is a building in the Warehouse District, I whipped up that section of the PL map for the GM of an online game I was participating in.

Building 15 is the Pit Stop:

I don't have a key for the other numbered buildings as the GM wanted to fill that in himself, but for the most part those are warehouses, hence the name. ;)

@Shadow Shack, Thanks for the details of how the Pit Stop relates to the warehouse district.  I remember you had told me that once before but I had forgotten.

male and female bathrooms? How very human of you.

Refering to the pit stop the concept of a male and female bathroom or bathrooms in general in the Frontier is not often addressed. Maybe that should be a topic. Just don't get into the Family of One Yazirians protesting the sex changing Dralasites using the same bathrooms as them.

Pictures look really good.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

There are co-ed bathrooms in other countries (Japan for instance). It could be an issue or not, I am not sure?

Considering the game is a product of the early 1980's, that's a premise I always stick with. Wink

In all likelihood it would be separate restrooms based on species not gender.
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

For the quick rundown:
Yazirians and Humans can probably share toilet facilities if you can just get the Yazirians to wear cloths.
Vrusk need alot of manuevering room and not sure where their anus is located but the toilet would definitely need to be a different shape than Human. Unless you go with the more traditional hole is the ground style still in use in many countries.
Don't Dralasite secrete wastes through their skin? So their toilets would be more like showers. Very short sanitized showers.
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?
