September 25, 2015 - 7:52am | i would add to this list that it can be used to secure the steering yoke of a vehicle to ensure it travels in a straight line after the occupants debark and place a heavy wt. on the accelerator/throttle mechanism. @Shadow: it was also used or something similar was used through the millenia by soldiers to prevent chafing by armor around the neck.
