Why is SDC a cult?

Silver Death Cult, a cadre & criminal organization for sure but why is it a Cult?

Could it be that their beliefs against non biologicals reaches the area of religious belief? What we can assume is that the organizers chose the name Cult for whatever their reason.

Info on SDC here:

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

Not all "cults" in the Frontier are religious in nature, but are minor factions made-up of fanatical or hard-line believes or ideologies. Here is what the remastered Zeb' Guide had to say about cults:
"Cults spring up everywhere but usually fade within the year [sic] Some are religious, some are social, others comprise outright fanatics who like to express themselves in bizarre ways. Of the hundreds of known cults throughout the Frontier, a few have emerged over the last two years that present a very real danger."
By the game's standard, a violent group like The Black Legion -- an off-shoot of the Ku Klux Klan -- would be classed as a "cult," but even a non-aggressive group with their own sub-culture, common outlook on life and possibly a unique lifestyle, like Juggalos (Insane Clown Posse fans), would also be classed the same.

Why is the Silver Death Cult a cult?

Because if it was a cadre it would be the Silver Death Cadre. {$lang_emotions_tongue-out}
I'm not overly fond of Zeb's Guide...nor do I have any qualms stating why. Tongue out

It might also be a band, like the Southern Death Cult (who later became The Cult) Cool

but it is classified in Zebs as a cadre just named cult; I'm just wondering what would have been the impetus of its founders to call it a cult and does this tell us something about the organization?

I doubt they formally call themselves a cult.  The media likely coined the name Silver Death Cult after they used "silver death" in some way like signing letters or marking attack sites.

Isn't there a picture someplace with a ship that has the name Silver Death on it?

A Cadre is suppose to be a small group of people trained to perform a specific profession while a cult was a group of people originally involved with religious worship.... so profession versus ideology?

The name itself most likely suggests chaos and confusion.

"Pleased to meet you,
I hope you guess my name.
But what's puzzling you
is the nature of my game."

Might be just for language flow. Which sounds better Blue Oyster Cadre or Blue Oyster Cult?
Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

Blue Oyster Cult.

Because if it was Blue Oyster Cadre the record labelling movement would have started long before Tipper Gore's PMRC in the mid-1980s...and Al Gore's predominant "I want you to say you support freedom of choice" argument against VP-candidate Dan Quayle would have held a lot more merit.
