jedion357 August 20, 2015 - 6:36am | Sometimes you get a name and bang you instantly have an NPC-. For example, my senior year of high school someone said to me, "fill up the jug" but I heard "Phillip the Jug" and bang I had a hard drinking dwarf NPC who travelled with a mule lugging a small keg and he always had a jug in hand an look out you if he was forced to smash his jug over your head. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 August 20, 2015 - 7:23am | Another example: new member to this site has an interesting name with jive at the beginning. I found I rather liked the name and decided to create an NPC based on it. Yazirian street hussler or is that space station promenade hussler? With nick name of jive added to his first name. Clan name not used and he's never clear on why he don't or what the clan name is or was. He knows stuff and people and always has a hussler and things he might sell you may or may not be hot. Name is Jive Yazzir. Come to think of it Yazzir may not even be his real name. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack August 20, 2015 - 5:23pm | Come to think of it Yazzir may not even be his real name. Yazzir...ah yes, that Arafat guy. "Jim, I don't understand why you're doing this to me." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p2IdZSuP0kA |

Putraack August 21, 2015 - 12:42pm | The closest I can come to that is when I looked at a map of Turkey, and the name of a mountain range was Goneydoglu Toroslar. "Gooney-dog-lu" is too silly to use, but "Toroslar!" sounded like a barbarian's first name, or something. I used it for a family name of my next PC in a D&D game. Sidebar: that could have been a fun game, but it folded after 1-2 sessions. It's been 15+ years, I guess I can recycle the name by now. |

"Gooney-dog-lu" is too silly to use, Not for a dralasite... |
KRingway August 22, 2015 - 3:18am | In 1986 I was listening to Blue Oyster Cult's 'ETL' album quite a lot, and was rolling up a Yazirian character for a friend of mine who was new to Star Frontiers. On the track 'Godzilla', there's one part where quite a bit of Japanese is spoken, and I mistook the word 'kudasai' for 'korasai'. I thought that sounded like a good word so the character was named 'Khorasai'. That character is still 'alive' in terms of our game universe, as despite various scrapes the Yazirian is still doing okay, but just hasn't been played for a looooong time |

"Gooney-dog-lu" is too silly to use, Not for a dralasite... That is what I was going to say. I rather like the sound of that Gooney Dog Lu In fact it give me an idea for another goofy name Dog and Pony show thought it might need some development. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
KRingway August 22, 2015 - 5:20pm | Taking some of the letters out of that name I get 'Dulo Oon' - which seems like more of a dralasite name to me. |
jedion357 August 22, 2015 - 6:00pm | Dont forget a dralasite is just as likely to make a joke out of his own name. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 August 28, 2015 - 3:47pm | Tu-Phat, dralasite (inspired by the post above "True Dat"
He's big- height is on the upper end of what's normal for dralasites and he's big around like a dralasite sumu wrestle. And he's strong going in for the dralasite strongman shtick. You don't want to get into a hand to hand fight with him or you might end up resembling a pretzel what ever your species is. He's worked as a bouncer and professional (or semi pro not sure which yet) wrestler. Loves bar brawls and was hired once as a sheriff or marshal on an outpost or light population colony because of his size and physical abilities were well suited to tossing drunken trouble makers out of the local cantina. He has a passionate dislike for mercenaries and has been known to start bar fights after one drink where he slams the cup down and throws a punch for no other reason than not liking the look of the guy. He targets the biggest and toughest looking.
He himself has never worked for a professional mercenary outfit like Merco or Galactic Taskforce but has hired out as muscle for private expeditions (university sponsored or other private type affairs). He may or may not deck you if you insinuate that this was being a mercenary. PS: don't fart in the hot tub when he's in it as he doesn't like the smell nor the taste of the water afterwards and you might find yourself flying across the room . he's also famous for hot tub brawls. EDIT: Tu-Phat is an intentional nick name. his real name is something like Pu-Dat but being a dralasite he could not resist the play on words. He occassionally feigns insult over "Too Fat"/ "Tu-Phat" with a compatriot and laughs with a deep base laugh at his play on words joke when they stumble over "I meant no insult...." For all the fights he gets into he's actually a very likable dralasite with the usual corny sense of humor. Very loyal to friends. While he looks at mercenaries in the same way I look at Boston taxi drivers, its not personal there is probably a story there for the dislike but by and large he just likes a good fight and figures he needs to test himself against the toughest customers he can find- no real test in picking a fight with a someone with a STR/STA of 30. STR/STA are in the neighborhood of 90 DEX/RS are in the area of 60 Martial Arts skill is in the area of 4-5 and he has a smattering of otherskill levels 1-2 I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
