jedion357 July 7, 2015 - 9:06pm | Seen it but I think its ideal for Gamma World.... I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa July 8, 2015 - 4:59am | Could easily be a GW ref's/player's idea.... 1 1/2 gal tank... that is a large chainsaw, so that is really a rocket launcher I think of Chainsaw death... might be fun to work up a couple versions of this. Anyone got a planet where they banned ammo? For every problem there is a solution! Or need to scare the heck out ofthe players... this will do it! "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 July 8, 2015 - 5:20am | How long is a rocket proppelled weapon in flight and does a chainsaw need 1.5 gallons to opperate that long? No the RPC is an incidiary weapon my friend just to add insult to the injury caused by the saw. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
jedion357 July 8, 2015 - 5:48am | Ah crazy weapons: how about super soakers? pressurized tank and the ability to shook liquid 30 feet? All depends on what you might be shooting for liquid. Back in college we had started with water balloons and eventually bought super soakers. One Saturday one of us spotted the Jehovah's Witnesses out doing their thing and got the bright idea to have a drive by shooting with super soakers. Drive by shootings had been in the news back then and for some reason we thought this would be a great idea. So in the enthusiasm of loading up the water guns I think I invited this Jewish kid along who was a pretty good friend but had the nick name "Holy Spirit" because he was usually the voice of conscience. Anyway he declined to participate and the look on his face as he said no sort of burst my bubble and I called it off. Latter on this kid, to his family's dismay, became a Baptist minister. So some hapless JW's were saved from a drive by shooting (with super soakers) by a Jewish future Baptist minister. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa July 8, 2015 - 10:47am | Yes liquid guns/gernades designed to shoot/splatter dangerous liquids are doable... I converted a Gurps Peroixide Gun for some folks playing Savage Worlds Mars. I am planning of doing same for SF, it will make a nice weapon for the Cycloptrons. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
bossmoss July 8, 2015 - 11:42am | One of my favorite things in the movie"Lost Boys" was the brothers fighting vampires with Holy Water squirt guns. |
Tchklinxa July 8, 2015 - 2:17pm | LOL oh that was a great scene! "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 July 8, 2015 - 5:13pm | In the novel Semper Mars the US Marines are outnumbered by Chinese troops and fighting from a higher position but the odds were desperate and they resort to pelting the Chinese troops with cans of beer which burst open on impact and with luck the contents froze on the faceplates of the Chinese which then made them easier picking and leveled the playing field for the Marines. In the sequel novel this space marine unit had adopted a patch that said something about how many miles they had travelled (to Mars) "and they didn't let us drink the beer!" I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Shadow Shack July 9, 2015 - 1:36am | 1½ gallon tank?!? Somebody has no concept of scale. This has a 2½ gallon tank: |
Malcadon July 9, 2015 - 3:56am | I would love to see the RPC-M1b Rocket-Propelled Chainsaw built around a giant-size GAU-8-like rottery cannon that is so massive, only a super-mecha akin to Megas XLR could mount it... and some added flamethrowers just for the hell of it! |
Tchklinxa July 9, 2015 - 5:11am | I agree on the scale issue... concerning the tank (I have a 1 gallon gas can for the lawn mower and I was all thinkng the same). Well I have never played any Mecha games... do we have any Mecha SF rules? "In the sequel novel this space marine unit had adopted a patch that said something about how many miles they had travelled (to Mars) "and they didn't let us drink the beer!"" Marines would so have a patch like that! LOL So we need Rifle Version but big caliber type gun (battery operated) or maybe Mortar Version instead? Rocket version, smaller tank, can be launched from shoulder. And Malcadon's "You die now!" mutli tool... lol "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Tchklinxa July 9, 2015 - 9:42am | Evil Dead Chainsaw that fits over the hand or replaces the hand... I need one of those. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Putraack July 9, 2015 - 8:54pm | Well, there's this guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSU1jQoGIqo (Slingshot/crossbow that shoots machetes) and this: http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-5-5/ Badger launcher! (BTW, RustyandCo is an excellent webcomic series-- the heroes are a mimic, a rust monster, and a gelatinous cube) |
Shadow Shack July 10, 2015 - 12:18pm | I am also interested in which model chainsaw starts with a single button push. Every one I've used requires at least six tugs on the ripcord, not to mention a few minutes idling while playing with the choke knob. |
jedion357 July 10, 2015 - 1:44pm | I am also interested in which model chainsaw starts with a single button push. Every one I've used requires at least six tugs on the ripcord, not to mention a few minutes idling while playing with the choke knob. Battery powered chain saw. However its only good for 20 to 30 minutes work depending on what you're cutting. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa July 10, 2015 - 5:11pm | True, I sort of thought that too... but we have future chainsaws! LOL "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 July 11, 2015 - 7:33pm | True, I sort of thought that too... but we have future chainsaws! LOL True, but I think they are called vibro-knives and vibro-swords I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa July 12, 2015 - 10:34am | I figeured we could use some of the vibro-knife & v-sword info to make these crazy weapons. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Shadow Shack July 12, 2015 - 12:34pm | Battery powered chain saw. However its only good for 20 to 30 minutes work depending on what you're cutting. So why the need for a fuel tank? Rockets don't work on gasoline... |
Tchklinxa July 12, 2015 - 3:02pm | No need actually, what I was thinking after my incial chuckle over the image was we make a vibro rocket bullet & vibro rocket. Probably wouldn't work well in RL even with the assumed tech but for SF game why not. So the rocket would have it's propellent and a small battery that would run the blade... is my thought. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 July 14, 2015 - 4:47pm | The tank doesn't fit but then it wasn't all that serious I bet ng. On the other hand I think a vibro weapon would pose all sorts of problems for stabilization. What if it was a spin stabilized drill head that chews into flesh? And for added fun explodes? Ideal for visits to Disney Jurrasic World theme park experience cause you just know after 4 movies that $h!ts a bad idea no matter how the corporate suits swear it's safe. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa July 14, 2015 - 7:51pm | Well a drill would be better... from actual physics points. Exploding after it has penatraed would be a nasty surprise. "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
Karxan July 21, 2015 - 11:57pm | In Warhammer 40K they have chain swords. Basically a chainsaw sword. Not sure how they power them but they start with the touch of a button and rip flesh nicely. Never thought it was practicle though. Without some fancy, future, power source it is not practicle today. Except for Drug lords with someone helpless. |
Putraack July 31, 2015 - 8:37pm | Gah, it just occurred to me that the sawzall I use at work is a vibroknife! |
Tchklinxa August 1, 2015 - 6:28am | LOL it is isn't it! "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
jedion357 August 1, 2015 - 7:27am | Yes and miniaturized to a degree not seen today. Wonder if the frontier vibroknife comes with a Chuck to facilitate swapping out dull blades? Perhaps I should pencil into my Crash on Volturnus mod a crate full of vibro knife blades for the players to find when they search the cargo holds of the Sereana Dawn. These blades lashed to a bone handle would make a serviceable hand saw which would be handy in the survival situation the PCs find themselves in. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
