Dice!

I do like a nice set of dice. Always have done, ever since I got my first set of polyhedrals so many years ago. I love the feel of them, the inherent possibilities (and probabilities) inherent within them. Somewhat sadly I like to have a set of dice for each of my RPGs- Nuke dice for "Mutant Epoch" and "Gamma World", black dice with red markings for "Traveller", red rocket-shaped dice for "Red Dwarf", and so on.

So I've been looking for some D10s to go with Star Frontiers. The ones with the game almost seem too precious to use (they're certainly fairly fragile, somewhat crappy plastic that they are). I considered matching the original red and light blue but wanted something a bit more... well... Star Frontiersy if you see what I mean.

Found some, in my friendly neighbourhood games shop, Orc's Nest, Central London. They'd just had a new shipment in, Workshop Q is the supplier I think. As you can see from the picture below, the colours match quite well, those particular shades of purple and dark blue must be common industry standard pigments, so I picked up a few of each. I'm rather pleased with them, just need a suitable bag now. Any more diceheads out there?

Very nice. The colors match almost perfectly.  I still use my red and green translucent d20's (numbered 0-9 twice) that came with my Paranoia game back in the day.  For some reason I've never really gotten into dice collecting.  All the dice I own fit in one small dice bag.

I too like the color match.  I can say I collect a little.  I like gems and metal dice.  I like small so that I can keep all I need in one bag.  I don't use D10s though.  I use D20s like TerlObar.

I have a small drawer in my bureau full of the things. The regular dice, special sets for rpgs like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, Fudge/Fate dice, Ubiquity Dice, Flying Buffalo Rune dice, gem dice, metal dice, even the remainder of the cheap ones I got in my old Games Workshop Golden Heroes and Call of Cthulhu rpgs.

In the cupboard underneath is where I keep my Irondie sets, but those are serious business.

The dice I was originally using for SF were also 20-sided D10s, two sets of opaque red and green oddly enough. Think they came with a game too.

I have a small collection, every one likes my 2 glow in the dark (I should try and find more of those) and my giant over sized 6 sided dice when I play magic down at the comic shop.

The dice looks like they are Chessex opaque purple and light purple.

They are indeed Chessex dice, asked the shop. Opaque blue and light purple. Just the 1-0s, didn't want the 10-00 ones.

I do have a bit of a collection that I have amassed over the decades.

I have several favorite sets, each with their own dice bag.

I have a tin with my oldest & most nostalgic dice, from the 1970s.

Some I keep them in a special tray with many compartments, with one compartment for each set.  The tray sits out on the coffee table, and my players use whichever set fits the moment best.

Then I have a large bin with my miscellanous odd dice, acquired from various sources over the years.  These are available for anyone to use.

I don't have specific dice assigned to specific games, but that is a cool idea.

I belive that the Opaque purple is a better match than the blue.

Sorry, no light purple d10 to compare at the moment.

Hmmm, my "blue" dice are a lot darker, more comparable to the dark purple ones you have there. Perhaps they ARE the dark purple ones. I'll pop into the game shop again today and have a root around in the dice box.

Yep, two shades of purple and blue in the box and it's definitely the dark blue and light purple ones I've got. Think the blue is a better match to my Alpha Dawn set, but there could be a bit of variation in printings (or fading with age).

Ah, now, they do have an even darker purple, but only with red coloured numbers...

Frak it, I'm happy with what I've got.

I had the opportunity to visit my FLGS and check out the dice. Chessex has made some changes to the colour of their dice over time. The blue is now darker than mine and the purple is lighter. I've forgotten that my dice are more than 15 years old. You are right the blue and light purple are the best colour combo.
