TerlObar May 20, 2015 - 6:17am | Just in case you're like me and don't usually got to the home page and see the announcements there, I'm creating this thread as a backup as it will show up in everyone's what's new page. (Plus you can comment here.) This is just a heads up. The domain registration for this site expires on Monday, May 25th. There have been some issues in the past with getting the renewal taken care of so I'm posting this in advance so you can write down the alternate address before it happens. If for some reason, you can't access the site after the 25th using the normal web address, try using http://sfus.starfrontiers.info. That is an alternate address that I have set up as a work around. It's always live but usually redirects to the actual URL. The reason for this message is that I don't currently own the domain registration for this site as it is still owned by a previous site administrator. I have e-mailed him to remind him and offered to take over paying for the domain but I haven't heard back from him. So hopefully this won't be an issue but just in case it is, you've been forewarned. jedion357 May 20, 2015 - 6:13pm | Didn't we already go through this a year or two ago? I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
TerlObar May 21, 2015 - 6:09am | Yes and each time the person owning the domian has eventually renewed it. I'm just forwarning people this time instead of having to deal with it after the fact. bossmoss June 21, 2015 - 3:39am | Is this related to the fact that this site no longer shows up on the Yahoo search engine? |
TerlObar June 21, 2015 - 7:29am | It probably doesn't show up as the domain has expired. At this point I'm expecting it to be sometime in August before we get this sorted out. Ad Astra Per Ardua! bossmoss June 21, 2015 - 2:21pm | August! Wow. Right now this site is effectively invisible. I had to use several tricks to even find it a couple days ago. I was actually concerned that the site was gone. When my wife once failed to pay the fee for her real world business, someone else bought the name, and then she could no longer use it. Couldn't the same thing happen here? |
TerlObar June 21, 2015 - 4:41pm | It could. Basically at this point the domain owner has dropped off the face of the planet and didn't renew. It's currently in the one month grace period where he can renew it. After that it goes into a 30-45 day holding period where he can still renew it for an extra fee. At that point, it becomes available again on the open market. I'll be checking at least daily to grab it as soon as it's available. I don't think any one else is going to grab it but it is possible. If for some reason we don't get it, I will have to figure something out but I'm fairly confident that I can get it. Ad Astra Per Ardua! Karxan July 22, 2015 - 12:05am | I take it our old friend w00t still has not reappeard? Or is it Cleancutrogue? |
TerlObar July 22, 2015 - 4:54am | It's w00t. I talk with CCR all the time, daily in fact right now. Ad Astra Per Ardua! My blog - Expanding Frontier Webmaster - The Star Frontiers Network & this site Founding Editor - The Frontier Explorer Magazine Managing Editor - The Star Frontiersman Magazine |
Stibbons July 31, 2015 - 5:57am | Did anyone else have trouble getting onto the site over the last few days? It just seemed to have vanished until I tried it today. Set course for the 80's... (My Livejournal) |
jedion357 July 31, 2015 - 6:22am | Did anyone else have trouble getting onto the site over the last few days? It just seemed to have vanished until I tried it today. Tom S was camping in I think he said Yosemite and it looked to me like his server went down. Very frustrating, I know, I have two articles to upload to the FE magazine site. Should be all worked out today I should think. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
bossmoss August 1, 2015 - 8:02pm | I've been checking each day since it went down. I'm very happy to see it is up again. |
TerlObar August 2, 2015 - 9:09am | Yeah, I need to revisit my infrastructure but I just haven't had the time. I think the recent crashes has been due to the computer getting too hot but I'm not completely sure. And the last two times it just rebooted but because of changes to the software I use for the virtual machines that run the websites, I can't start them up unless I'm actually logged into the computer. So when I'm at work or on vacation that's a problem. It's something I want to fix but I just haven't had the time. Ad Astra Per Ardua!
