Tchklinxa May 14, 2015 - 4:54am | Sathar don't just blow things up, they are tool makers, tool users and builders. They must have a unique Architecture as they have a unique mode of locomotion. So they normally "stand" 1 meter tall (standing on tippy toe 1.5 meters) with the rest of their body on the floor so 2.5 meters to 2 meters. They can probably transverse stairs but I doubt they would build stairs. I am thinking broad ramps and halls. Doorways? Ovals or Circles? Doors? I don't see them really using ladders per say. And what might the barrow from other cultures? I think they like humid, moist temps probably in certain a temp range (I need to do more physiology research here but I do not think it is hot/humid but more cool/moist/humid). Buildings? Would they remind us of their ships or be completely different? Would they be underground complexes, above ground tall buildings, both or low buildings? Mazes? I have trouble seeing them as right-angle prone species...Kivas? (Round partially above, partially below ground) Hogans? Little Domes? In short if we imagined a Sathar City what would it be like? Would they build Pyramids, copying Tetrarchs? If so how would theirs be uniquely Sathar? Locks? Hand holds? Would they include water features? Wallows, pools? What would a Sathar find aesthetically pleasing? Moisture holding substances... we have artificial pellets that absorb moisture that we use for various purposes, would they develop that tech but use it in a different way? Are buildings straight hard tech or bio-forms or a mixed some things grown some things not? "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |
TerlObar May 14, 2015 - 7:20am | Well I looked at this a little in my design of the Sathar Destroyer that I published in the Sathar Destroyer Technical Manual. Definitely ramps and elevators. I think they would go tall only for space constraints and probably go down as much as up. I also think there would be lots of water and I agree that cool (or maybe warm but not hot)/moist/humid is the desired environment. Hand holds/controls would be low to the ground and ceilings would be low. On the destroyer I put them at 1.7m for othe sathar inhabited spaces (larger where they had to get machinery and beasties in) and it was only about 1.2 m tall in the ramp areas between levels. Going room to room in a sathar building means humans and yazirians are always stooped, vrusk are brushing their antennae against the celings and dralasites are making jokes about tall people. And some areas the the three larger races of the core four just don't fit into (at least not easily) Definitely rounded corners and ovoid rooms. It's not as practical from a construction stand point but you can hid piping and such in the rounded corner areas (that's what I did on the ship). And I think the same shapes apply to the exteriors as well. We know they build pyramids (i.e. the sathar artifact on Volturnus but even inside, may of the rooms were ovid). However, they are not stupid and the exteriors are probably built with the local weather in mind. I suspect that there will be similarities between sathar and dralasite construction just due to the nature of the species. Ad Astra Per Ardua! jedion357 May 15, 2015 - 4:15pm | Oval egg shaped recepticals in the floor with sliding doors to seal them- these are the acceleration couches, sleep pods, and work stations. Why cause I lile the idea of plates in the floor retracting and sathar rising up to engage the PCs. Warm and moist. yes. ramps to transverse from floor to floor or deck to deck. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
Tchklinxa May 15, 2015 - 7:42pm | Don't forget an elivator floor for the pool, so the sathar raises & the water drains... with the whole mist action. This would be so Sathar: Water Wall: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vpz9mjRzF8 "Never fire a laser at a mirror." |

I like the round one with variable depth. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |
