I would call this movie Saving Private Ryan without the stupidity.

Its a simple story intending to show the life and brutality of being a tank crew in WW2.

One thing I found myself asking was where did they get the vintage tanks but it turns out there were 10 shermans available and even the last operational Tiger 1.

I rather liked the military genuis of training a clerk to type 60 words per minute and then assigning him as a replacement assistant driver for a tank.

There is a bit of gore in that like Saving Private Ryan you witness some graphic taking off of people's heads
I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

He was trained how to shoot and they needed him as an assistant driver - to shoot. During the Battle of the Bulge - ALL soldiers fought as Infantry: cooks, clerks, mechanics, drivers, etc.

This is why we have all soldiers qualify on their weapon twice a year, take the APFT twice a year. Before, you went to basic and AIT then BAM you were a clerk...no weapons training. Why? Didn't need it you were a clerk. But that changed during WW2 and especially after the Battle of the Bulge.

@ Jaxon: that was a large piece of the story early on in that he hesitated when he saw a German soldier who was little more than a boy with a panzer shreck. and the Lt's tank bought the farm. Brad Pitt's character comes down hard on him but then they have a very human moment later on.

The movie is set post Battle of the Bulge as they are pushing into Germany and Germany is going to the last line of mobilization. the local SS officer is hanging anyone who wont fight so you see a lot of very young German soldiers.
