Jefferies described it as a tear drop shape.

I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers!

I reloaded my CC3 software after talking to Iggy last night and played around with it. Its a mad pain in the but to master the user interface IMO. Here's a quick mock up of this shuttle and I've saved stages of progress so that I can go back and make a vrusk version with saddle couches (reclined chair)

doesn't look like it could achieve lift with those tiny wings.

likely true, i simply wanted to do a mock up as a tribute to Star Trek.

Of course, with enough thrust even a brick will fly. though I think this think glides in to land

Perhaps a little redesign with more wing?

in Trek the nasals (sp?) don't opperate like chemical rocket thrusts.

How could we get this thing VTOL capabilities?

Maybe the Nasals can turn and face the ground and it can take off like a Osprey?  Maybe simple vectored thrust but that seems like to large a craft for that.

in case my image insert fails above... here is the link

So... i guess having thrust come down in the middle of the nassals wouldn't be that hard maybe.

I think if we do rockets for propulsion, and wheels for take off like a plane the basic design could be used .

looking at the mock up I did, the rocket engines are tail heavy and the wing/strut needs to be centered.
That will also give the airlock some space so that its not crouded by the wing.

And rather than start a new thread I'll post this here:

What do you get the geek that has everything except a wife or live in girlfriend?
Why a Star trek Themed coffee table, of course

I think I know what I'm telling Santa that i want for Christmas, ooops I forgot I'm married, this will never fly.

Let me know where you can get this. Met my wife at a Star Trek fan club meeting.

Sounds like a great job but where did you say we had to go?

I just found the photo on line, not sure who makes it but its hard to believe its one of a kind.

scratch that as it made the list of top 10 star ship enterprises made by fans

But check out the wedding ring on this list!

Great idea, I need to show it to my brother who's been doing a lot of wood working and some welding lately.

Funny enough I had several of these when I was younger done up as "shuttle-craft" floating around in my desk and book bags:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eraser#mediaviewer/File:Office-pink-erasers.jpg

I'd later add retracting wings and a "bubble" cockpit as a "standard" SF shuttlecraft for my PCs

Even weirder was several "minatures" I'd made from pen bodies with one of these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eraser#mediaviewer/File:Erasers.jpg

on the aft end for the "drives" that looked pretty damn cool once they were painted and detailed.

These days I'm playing about with another favorite design "Lenticular Reentry Vehicle" with the North American OTV design here being a General purpose shuttle and the larger Orbital Bombardment Vehicle (with most of the center section replaced with cargo and passenger storage instead of missiles) as a heavy lift shuttle and lander.

Jeffries always wanted the shuttles to have a more "general aviation" feel to them from what I've read. But I always thought the general "boxy" shape of the type-7 had a more "usable" feel to it despite the total lack of aerodynamics.
