jedion357 July 27, 2014 - 6:28am | This is a place holder thread for compiling quotes by Gygax Just found this interesting quote from Gygax in Dragon #248 (22 aniversary of Gary founding Dragon magazine) I suppose its pretty much a definitive comment by him on the Hickman revolution and the later trend toward story RPGs. The comment was occassioned on an inquery to TSR bringing back the Greyhawk setting that he had created. The Oerth needs demons and devils to plague it, and why not PC assassins and the like, too? Those who object to such things don't buy RPGs anyway. Similarly, those who want, 'storytelling,' an emphasis on 'roleplaying' (read boring yakking and amateur thespianism), need to be ignored. The action is difficult to create, but opportunities for roleplaying can be created easily by even a moderately skilled DM. I might not be a dralasite, vrusk or yazirian but I do play one in Star Frontiers! |

I guess Gary got a new perspective later when he rebelled against the d20 revolution's modifier madness. View my profile for a list of articles I have written, am writing, will write.
